Thad Matta (OSU's All Time Winningest Coach & 3x B1G COY, Butler HC)

In time, Thad Matta will be viewed as one of the best coaches in B1G college basketball history. This move is not unexpected but we should all remember that he not only achieved on the court, but his players also achieved off of it. He ran a clean program and will be fondly remembred for bringing back the lustre to Ohio Stste basketball. God bless and thank you coach!

I agree with this. Even though things have gone rapidly south the past couple of seasons, at least he's leaving before what was sure.to be an utter disaster of a season this fall. He'll ultimately be remembered for his myriad accomplishments, taking tOSU hoops to unprecedented heights, and running a clean program. As he should be. It's sad it went off the rails at the end.

Two-Minute Drill: Gene Smith and Thad Matta Press Conference

+ Thad Matta will help Ohio State in the search and the transition.

+ Matta will stay on until there is a new head coach.

+ Smith wants him and Matta to be aligned in their conversations regarding candidates because when Smith calls a candidate, that candidate is immediately going to call Matta.

+ Regarding the search, Matta joked that if the new coach does great, people need to remember that he was involved. If the new coach does not do well, then he had nothing to do with it...:slappy:

+ Matta's contract will be honored. He has three more years remaining.

Five interesting points.

Agreed, I'm not sure why any major program would hire Matta should he leave after the debacle that is currently happening. Matta has not shown any ability to recruit or develop the players he has brought in and there is certainly a philosophical issue between Matta and his players.

do you even lane kiffin bruh?? err.... the female form of bruh..? :p

ok so it isn't bb related. but some jobs are filled by last names faster than physical ability. im less familiar with college bb, but fooball is filled with examples.

all that said, i really feel bad for coach matta. so many great years for him. the idea of your body failing you to the point that you can't physically do what you love and what you can do mentally... its a scary thought and i really feel for him. i truly hope he gets his health right and finds the next stage of his life and what makes him happy, whatever that might be, quickly. sounds like the right decision was made from what i have seen/heard, still gonna miss him.

Ever since I heard that Thad was leaving yesterday, I have felt a certain sadness for him. Never knew the man had undergone 4 major back operations in his lifetime with the first being when he was only 15 years old. He gave quite a bit of his life to the University and I just wish that he could have gone out on his own terms. Sure hope that he gets to open up that bar at a beach in Mexico someday.
