Thad Matta (OSU's All Time Winningest Coach & 3x B1G COY, Butler HC)

Thad can do really well at UNLV, provided that he is in a better place health-wise.

But it just won't feel like UNLV without stuff like the following picture and Thad won't be having any of that:

something to consider about matta and rumors of a new job is that if he is to continue receiving buyout payouts ($100k per month through june 2020), then he must be actively pursuing a comparable job. like last year, that obviously includes interviews at high-profile programs. having said that, it makes much more sense for matta to accept a head coaching now (versus last year) because the first year of his new contract would probably match, if not succeed, the remainder of his buyout.

unlv is a curious fit, though. if the issues surrounding the 2015 class are what ultimately brought matta down, then i can't imagine it would get much easier at unlv. that does not mean i'd call unlv a "bad" fit. i think you'd have to get into his current headspace before drawing any accurate assumptions.

I just find this very hard to believe because I have always thought of Matta as a Midwest guy and Las Vegas certainly does not fit that category. One of his daughters is attending Butler and he is living a leisure life in Indianapolis. I know that he wants to coach again but Las Vegas. I think he would have been better off taking the Georgia job last year.

Also, someone stated that he is now better off health wise to assume a coaching position. Speaking a little bit from experience, once you have a bad back it really never goes away. Even the "warm" weather of Las Vegas would not make any difference. I do not see him needing money because I am sure that he is pretty well invested even when the money from Ohio State dries up. I will be extremely shocked if he takes the job at UNLV.

vandy fires bryce drew. that's the kind of job that makes a little more sense.
drew had a hell of a recruiting class last year but unfortunately lost the best one who tore his ACL and then dropped out of school… I do not think that we were here anything about new coaches until after the tournament is over. I do not think Matta is going to UNLV because everything is pretty quiet in central Ohio and somebody would certainly know something.
