The bizarre story of Kevin Hart (official fraud)

methomps

an imbecility, a stupidity without name
This one is still developing, so no idea what is going on. A hoax by the kid? By someone else? Whatever happened, law enforcement has stepped in.

RGJ.com: Web site: no offer made to Fernley lineman
Doubt started to set in about 9 p.m. Friday, 81/2 hours after Hart announced during a school assembly he would sign with Cal over Oregon on National Signing Day, which is Wednesday.

?The Cal staff has had no contact whatsoever with Coach Hodges or Hart, and that they have not visited him; nor has Hart been on a recruiting trip to any school,? recruiting Web site rivals.com reported.

BearTerritory.net - Beyond Belief
At the ceremony, two local television stations arrived for Hart's declaration, including the ABC and NBC affiliates. On the evening news in Reno, the story aired three times on Friday night alone by NBC. One on-looker described the scene as "1,000 people, including all the students at Fernley high, were celebrating once Hart donned the hat, selecting Cal over Oregon, waving to one side of the room, then the other. It was like a war hero returning from battle."

The California Golden Blogs :: February :: 2008
The linked news article above quotes Mr. Hart as saying: "They really sold me ? Coach (Jeff) Tedford and I talked a lot, and the fact that the head coach did most of the recruiting of me kind of gave me the real personal experience."
This quote certainly seems to suggest that someone had been posing as Tedford and calling the young man frequently enough to develop a rapport and relationship. Such a good faux relationship to cause the Mr. Hart to truly believe he was talking to Tedford and was offered a scholarship. Amazing.

If the kid pulled a hoax, I hope his ass is in a world of shit. Conversely, I can't see how he truly could've committed to Cal if he had never taken an official visit there...

if the kid pulled the hoax, good for him. Nobody asked about the official visit there? (parents, coaches, friends)

Conversely, if the kid actually thought he had an offer without ever visiting the campus or meeting the coach face-to-face...great job of selling it by the prankster.

Either way, whoever pulled this off is completely awesome.

And a complete jack-ass...That would really suck to commit to a school that you want to go toand then find out there wasn't actually an offer. I think thats taking a prank a little too far...though he must be very persuasive. VOTE THIS KID FOR PRESIDENT '12:biggrin:

seriously, for this kid to think he had a legit offer, think about how many people would have to be idiots???

The parents didn't ask to speak to the coach, or request to meet face-to-face?? They didn't request an official visit??

The high school coaching staff didn't get suspicious that the coaches never talked to them??

There weren't any local high school recruitniks to check Cal's website and see if he had been offered????

If someone was capable of convincing an entire school and local sports reporters that this kid had an offer, props to them. That's like a scene out of a movie.

And if the kid pulled it off, even better. I hope he gets a scholarship to Cal based on his ability to sell.

Great prank one way or the other.

Uh, no. Deceiving all those people who care about him about receiving a scholarship to a D-1A university isn't "awesome".

Really, think about this......if the kid thought he had an offer, his guardians didn't know they should meet the staff??? If that's the case, I feel sorry for the stupidity of the family.

Could they be that dumb???

And if he didn't really have an offer, but was deceiving everybody....they didn't ask any questions??? Family just thought it was normal procedure to not talk to the coaches, or visit the campus?? The coaching staff didn't smell anything fishy?? Local SPORTS reporters didn't investigate at all???

Either way, there are some people that got duped.

Could you imagine a high school player claiming an OSU scholarship not getting called on it???

Dumb or not, I doubt this family deserved to get screwed over so badly.

I'm surprised nobody is pointing to the obvious culprit in all this:

Just how is this "awesome"? How'd you like to have your boss tell you that you got a 20% raise effective immediately, and then when get your next check where it's actually a pay cut? Would you join him in laughing when he came over to you afterwards and said, "Hey, that was a pretty awesome hoax, huh?"

I don't think that is a very good comparison. If I go home and tell my wife and family I received a 20% raise when I didn't, and then a week later I get my paycheck, take it home, and say "gotcha" to my wife......it would suck for my wife.

Conversely, if someone called me on the phone, told me I just received a raise even though I've never seen them nor met them, I'm going to ask my direct boss what is up. I'd definately ask a few questions before I assumed the raise was legit.

Plus, at least I'd have a reason to believe me boss, seeing as I see him everyday and have an established relationship with him. This kid thought he had an offer without ever meeting any of the staff??

Either way you look at this, SOOOO much stupidity was involved it is comical.
