I've never gotten the long term trauma over Illinois in '07.

It was horrific at the time but all in all it meant nothing. Still played for the NC.

I was in Ames, IA went tailgating and got a good buzz. Started watching that game at some shit Iowa State bar. I was screaming at the TV and people didn't know what to do. Took so many shots that I ended up falling down the steps and took out all of the garbage cans the bartender had just filled as she was cleaning up to close. They "politely" asked me to leave at my earliest convenience.

I was at that game and it was the most frustrating opponents drive I have ever seen. I knew that if we could get the ball back we would score - and we couldn't stop them.

But in the broader context I agree - just another upset.

Watched that game alone. Wife and kids were at friends house. They sent a car to come get me when the game finished. Not sure if it was because they knew I shouldn’t be driving — and they were right, or for fear that I was going to put my head through drywall. That was a brutal game. Iowa and Purdue were just ass kickings along the line of a bandage being ripped off. Illinois was like water boarding.

The Iowa game, I was mad but it passed quickly. The Purdue game was so bad I wasn't even upset....kinda saw it coming. But that 07 Illinois game STILL infuriates me. Before the season started, I pointed to that game on the schedule and told my wife "That's the one that worries me". That game was so frustating. From the Illini touchdown that wasn't to the Bucks inability to get the defense off the field in the 4th quarter, that was 3 hours of pure hell.

Funny how it goes but I honestly don't even think about Illinois in '07 unless someone brings it up.

Not from suppression but just total indifference.

MSU '98 is the one that still haunts

Florida '07 and Clemson '19 are the 2 that stung...to the point that I tried to ignore content for a few weeks afterward to get over. I was at Illinois '07 and USC '09 and despite being stunned that actually took place, was over it pretty quickly. I guess it's the finality of the former 2.

But really in my lifetime it's TTUN '95 and '96...freshman and sophomore years in HS...those games STILL piss me off something awful every time I think about them. '95 Nebraska is the GOAT and still wins that MNC, but '96 is there for the taking....

Edit: To remain on topic, FUCK MICHIGAN forever and fucking always.

For anyone too young to remember the details of that game Illinois ran out the last 8:09.

Even worse at one point during that drive they were on the field ready to punt. Tressel called time out, Illinois decided to go for it and kept the drive alive.

Waterboarding is an apt description.

Same here. That Illinois game ended up being completely irrelevant. But what happened in that game will always blow my mind.

Agree on MSU 98.

Clemson from last year is going to sting for decades too, for me, anyway.
I was too young in 98. This years Clemson game was definitely the worst, for me. There’s a few that losses that still bother me (05 Texas, 13 MSU, 15 MSU) but the Clemson game is easily the worst.
