The Buttocks' are heading to LA!

BuckeyeRyn

Calling all friends & people I met on the way down
Next weekend, the Buttocks' are heading to LA.

Any advice on MUST do's, MUST avoids would be appreciated. What part of town to stay in, restaurants to hit, attractions to see... We will be traveling with the offspring but they are good little travelers, we are NOT going to Disneyland!

I'd say Santa Monica is always the best. If you want to be in a more "vacation" enviroment. Good shopping, nice hotels and clean. You can go to "Muscle Beach" on Venice Beach. That's always fun, there are always all sorts of street acts, shopping and cool places to grab some drinks and food. In downtown I'm not sure how far along they are, but right around the Staples Center, AEG is building LA Live. It's a work in progress, but, it is the future Mecca of entertainment. It will be the home to all the awards shows, LA sports, concerts, shops/restaurants and ESPN West Coast. I'd also go by West Hollywood and the Kodak Theatre... always a scene. Then there is always all the studios and amusement parks like Universal.

First - a must do - rent a car.

Second - no Disneyland! This confirms your status as the counter-culture BP family (j/k) :wink2:

Seriously though, consider getting the kids and yourselves onto the Universal City tour.

If theme parks are absolutely, positively off limits then try these ...

La Brea - Page Museum

J. Paul Getty Museum

Venture out by car to Pasadena and there is, of course, the Rose Bowl and

Huntington Gardens

also consider

Santa Monica Pier

But, you are in LA so what about Grauman's Chinese Theater
and the star walk in Hollywood - only during the day I'd say.

Of course, with car a great deal more is within your reach on an extended day-trip.

Go North for instance, perhaps as far as San Luis Obispo. Great beach parks (free). Say Rosebud, further up to Hearst Castle would be very interesting.

Go South to Little Saigon in Westminster. Plenty of great and relatively well priced restaurants.

Lastly - ask methomps or OCBucksFan / Wife - I'm pretty sure they have a "local" view of what's best and safe. (Beyond the obvious, like no Hollywood at night).

Well, if you want to avoid disneyland but want to hit an amusement park Knotts Berry Farm is a decent time, along that same road you can find a pretty large hollywood wax museum if that's your thing. If you want to go shopping or look at freaks, Melrose blvd is a fun day just to walk down and see weird shops, people and what not. With the kids though, Universal might be fun, it's not too crowded and if nothing else you can go by it just to see some of the shops around it, Citywalk can be fun just to see.

If you venture into the Orange County area there's some really nice beaches, and even though it's January they aren't bad just to visit, the weather isn't hot but it isn't cold either. Laguna beach area is really nice, good shops, resturaunts and a really clean beach.

Could take a train down the San Diego Zoo. Kids would probably like it.

Wabi Sabi is a good sushi place in Venice.

The San Diego Zoo and Wild Animal park is really nice, but that's a long way from LA, about 120 miles, if you're going to go that route you probably want to hit Sea World as well. San Diego, though, is far but there's a lot of stuff to see and do there.

If you like bbq ribs (and don't have heart problems:tongue2:) eat at Hustons. There are a coulpe of them in LA... GREAT ribs!! (They actually soak the meat in bacon lard for several days before they cook the meat)...

Now there's a piece of advice I never thought I'd see... If you go to LA, be sure to try the BBQ.

BKB, if you run into Petey, make sure you give him a swift kick in the buttocks. Get him good and ready for September 13.
