Alot of my friends are happy for Terrelle Pryor choosing Ohio State but they are not as optomistic about this as they were when Clarett came to the buckeyes in 2002. They witnessed what happened to Ohio State after that and they don't want to have another story like the one the Maurice Clarett
created. I guess we will have to wait and see Huh, and I have my fingers crossed on this one. Good Luck to coach Tressel and staff on this one.

Just like positive comparisons to Vince Young, Troy Smith and/or other Buckeye greats are premature and inappropriate, negative comparisons to Clarett should be left alone.

Enjoy the good news. The kid hasn't even matriculated yet, not sure how you (or your friends) made your way to another ledge so quickly. :shake:

You'd much rather have #1 recruits come here and flame out (Clarett) and be champions, or Ride to the Championship (Oden, Conley). He's gonna have a much better chance here playing behind that amazing line!

Hey Native,

I should've know it was you ... "matriculated"?

Both of you two are way off on kip's comments. What he meant was that we've been in a similar situation before (getting a much-hyped top national recruit), and while he helped us win a national title it ended up badly for him in the end. Having seen this happen before, kip and his friends are little more tentative on their excitement than they'd otherwise be. He is neither "on the ledge" nor is he wishing that Pryor "flames out" like Clarett.

I'm not going to address this directly as it relates to TP because there's no reason to.

I will address the underlying issue of how Tressel's staff handles players generally. I think everybody, most of all Jim Tressel, now realizes that He Who Must Not Be Named should have been handled differently. I also believe that Jim Tressel has learned a hell of a lot about how running a historic top 5 program that is always going to be in the spotlight and is a magnet for parasites and "hangers-on" is vastly different than running YSU. That can be evidenced in a near absence of off-field incidents in recent years as well as vast improvements in graduation rates and team gpa. Should Tressel ever be faced with another He Must Not Be Named again, I have every confidence that it will be handled in a far, far better manner.

#12, #7 & #28 arrived with enormous hype and handled it admirably, so drawing comparisons to #13 alone is a bit short-sided... especially taking it to the extreme of fearing dastardly consequences. Pryor is not being handed the keys, or even the backup/package QB position... another parallel to the aforementioned three, but not #13. He'll earn what he gets, and I'm sure the veterans will make that painfully clear during the summer & fall.

I don't think I'm way off here. We also landed Teddy and Beanie since Mo Clarett, and they have worked out ok. I just think its wrong to saddle TP with any baggage ahead of time - good or bad.

I get it. I've read lots of comments by soured scUM fans saying,, "... he probably won't live up to the hype!, They OSU can have him"

I'm just saying Every kid might disappoint, or crash. So no need to worry more about TP then anyone else on the team, especially when he comes in with arguably the best OL since the Pace/Stringer days. So be very very excited!

Apparently BusNative missed the point of my post altogether. Maurice Clarett was a learrning curve for alot of us older buckeye fans. I was not comparing TP to Maurice or any other buckeye great.

Since the emergence of JIm Tressel to the Buckeye
Nation, all of us were excited for that. Plus we were all aware of Maurice Claretts existence and what he could accomplish on the football field before coming to OHio State. Never did we ever think that after the N/C game, OhioState would have to go
thru so much turmoil over one players actions and behavior.

It was sad that all this had to happen because Maurice could have been so much greater to himself and others had he chose to stay the course of greatness for his future. We all do not know how good Terrell will be but WE ARE HOPING. The maturity in a young man can only be juged by himself and the way he speakes to others who will be watching him. Like Marty Schottenheimer once was quoted as saying "Deeds not Diologue" is an important action in life. I've been around football along time and have learned many things from good coaches and great players. Yet While I am excited for TP,choosing The Ohio State University as a lauching pad to what could be greatness in the future, i will remain ever cautious to the fact that, things have a tendency to go south in heartbeat for anybody and then we wonder why. I still today, wonder about a person like Maurice Clarett and his life and what he will be. I know Jim Tressel very well and i can tell you he feels the same way. You can only do so much for a young person, the rest is up to his decision. I beleive that this is what Jim tressel is all about. I beleive that this is what the Ohio State University is all about also.
