Game Thread THE GAME: Ohio State 14, TSUN 3 (final)

Um. Wow. That's like watching a professional racquetball player when I'm too drunk to tie my own shoes. I have no idea where the ball is. But I still know enough to cover my crotch, in case it comes my way.

I never said anything about you being a Michigan fan. I even said that I wasn't questioning your Ohio State fan-ness. I also said that there's a chance I didn't understand you. (And many people here will tell you that it's not surprising that Zurp doesn't understand something.)
...
So, with the risk of getting more of your disappointed faces in my direction, let me at least address the part of your post that I understand slightly.

Obviously you are missing the sarcasm I am trying to communicate despite the "Unreasonable" statement or "Caustic" before my name. I highly doubt you are calling me a Michigan fan, and you should highly doubt I want Michigan to win The Game at any time. That's all I have to say about that.

[sarcasm] Fucking Buckeye fans. :shake: [/sarcasm]

WTF? Don't you think you are taking this a bit too far? A 37-21 drubbing in 2004, followed by two losses leading up to a subpar effort this year by anyone not named Hart (4 straight, as you know). As OC said, don't you ever get tired of kicking the shit out of your little brother and you just wish he'd hit puberty so it became a challenge at some point? tOSU played far less than perfect on Saturday and still emerged with a convincing victory in Ann Arbor (despite the 14-3 score, I never felt a sense of urgency following the first Q). How does that turn me into a Michigan fan? Unreasonable. :shake:

Not to gang up on you but I'm with the other guys on this. I don't see how any luster is lost, I'm pretty sure I got all the excitement I needed out of this rivalry last year when we squeaked out a win.

Maybe you got bored with the game this year but my heart rate didn't drop until the end of the third quarter, after Beanie had scored and Michigan had demonstrated they weren't going to get anywhere against our stout D.

Any game where I get nervous days in advance and have to drink heavily day of, not just to have fun, but to calm my nerves is not a game that I see losing any luster.

Lets all make sure we don't try and pull a Michigan on tsun. When they won all those games in the Cooper years they started trying to propagate the "you guys aren't even a rival because it isn't competitive" argument. It was BS then and it's BS now. These things are cyclical, but even if Michigan hits rock bottom and stays there, I will still bask in the glory of an Ohio State win with the same pride and joy every single time we kick the living hell out of them.

Can I get an :oh::io:

My only point is- if we beat them 10 years straight, it becomes Illinois until this year. I'm never tired of beating scUM, but I think it's better for the game for them to be the scUM we all know and love.

Not to pile on, but to say rest easy. Michigan has NEVER lost 10 straight years to ANYONE at ANYTIME in their history. They have never lost 10 in a row to any team even counting non consecutive years.

Michigan Losing Streaks

9 - Minnesota 1934-1942
5 - Army 1945-1954
4 - Ohio State 1934-1937, 1960-1963, 2004-2007
4 - Minnesota 1960-1963
4 - Michigan State 1934-1937, 1950-1953, 1959-1962
4 - Notre Dame 1987-1990
4 - Illinois 1950-1953
4 - Harvard 1881-1914
4 - Penn 1899-1908

THE GAME will always be big. It will always be important. Our schools have too much pride to let it be otherwise.

That's my point... it wasn't BS, because we weren't competitive:

1988....Michigan 34...Ohio State 31...Columbus
1989....Michigan 28...Ohio State 18...Ann Arbor
1990....Michigan 16...Ohio State 13...Columbus
1991....Michigan 31...Ohio State 3....Ann Arbor
1992....Michigan 13...Ohio State 13...Columbus
1993....Michigan 28...Ohio State 0....Ann Arbor
1994....Michigan 6....Ohio State 22...Columbus
1995....Michigan 31...Ohio State 23...Ann Arbor
1996....Michigan 13...Ohio State 9....Columbus
1997....Michigan 20...Ohio State 14...Ann Arbor
1998....Michigan 16...Ohio State 31...Columbus
1999....Michigan 24...Ohio State 17...Ann Arbor
2000....Michigan 38...Ohio State 26...Columbus

Did we put up a good fight a few years? Sure. But some of those years were downright embarrassing. Tim B.'s 313 yards? Weren't we the #2 team in the country?

Do I agree Michigan will come back? Do I agree that programs are generally cyclical? Do I think Ntre Ame will be back one day? Sure- these are the storied programs of college football. BUT- if you read my original post, I'm rooting for them to get back on par so the Big Ten is top heavy once again. No one, especially Buckeye fans, want to see a scUM team in the middle of the Big Ten rankings. If you do, you aren't looking at the circumstance holistically.

And threeyards, as a response out of respect, let's not take my discussion so literally.

SARCASM (note- my name is Caustic):[sarcasm] Pile on all you want, fuckers, no need to apologize for being a dickhead.[/sarcasm]

Edit: That chart didn't work out so well... :so:

it will take another 9 or ten wins just to get the taste of Cooper's era out of my gills.

Believe me, the worst part of the 90s was when UM fans would tell me, "You know, Ohio State is just not that big of a rivalry any more... we always beat them".

THAT's what pissed me off.

So I somewhat agree that scUM needs to win once in a while, I would say maybe in 2020 or so??

Go Bucks!

I beg to differ... beating Indiana every year doesn't bring a whole lot of excitement. Should scUM become that, The Game loses out and so does the Big Ten.

I'm gonna take a different tact.

scUM ISN'T going to become like Indiana, because just like tOSU they can't tolerate losing to the other team for too long. (even though we had to live with Cooper for far too long).

That being said, THE GAME will continue to be THE GAME, because both schools know the significance and are going to maintain it.

I hated (and still get my hackles raised) when I heard that bull shit from up north that MSU was a bigger rivalry for scUM than tOSU was. Now that we're on the other side of the coin, I hope that people will refrain from even thinking of such equine excrement.

I don't think the luster is missing from the Ohio State side, we love kicking the living crap out of tsun, I think it was missing this year from the scUM side. They were defeated even before going into the game, even the scUM blogs pretty much said they would lose.

Like I said, I wonder how much of that had to do with the way their year started, the pure hilarity that took place during the ASU game, or maybe the demoralizing beat down that Oregon put on them, or if it was just the fact that the week before both teams lost. Something just felt different this year.

My other thought is that the Cooper years leave them now being whinier than ever, they grew that "expectation" of winning every year and now it's gotten like a baby having their bottle taken away.

No problems here. And my point wasn't to say that you really think we will go 10 straight over Michigan. The point is that Michigan is good ... obscenely good ... at not becoming bad and staying bad. In their entire history, they have only 2 losing streaks greater than 4 games to any one team. That's AMAZING. They have 11 streaks that lasted 4 games. If I recall, only 8 streaks that lasted 3 games.

I think this leads to the underlying point of contention. You propose that we don't want a mediocre Michigan as it will dull the rivalry. I think everyone agrees with that point. Where there is a disconnect is that no one (other than yourself) sees that as a possibility.

...Michigan fans were nothing but disappointing with their middle fingers and lack of spirit throughout. I am saddened (despite the rivalry) that Lloyd Carr is retiring after a great career. Really, he won a National Championship and was a good coach for scUM in the years he coached there. I feel the rivalry has lost a bit of its luster due to the lopsided record of late, and hope that scUM can restore the rivalry with the hiring of a new coach who can bring class and tradition back to the program. This is the greatest rivalry in all of sports, and I appreciate it as such. However, like we felt during the Cooper era, it is not nearly as enjoyable today as it seems there is a lack of passion demonstrated from TSUN in recent years. We (tOSU) didn't play especially well. Blame whatever you wish, but to watch a scUM safety come up on Beanie's TD run and appear to concede was disappointing. UM football carries a storied tradition that can't be lost. As a fan of tOSU and especially college football, I sincerely hope UM the best going forward to bring pride back to the Big Ten and more importantly- The Game.

Best of luck in the bowl games to the entire conference.

Point taken. I understand/respect your (among many other's) POV, however I think if scUM becomes Kent Read, Kent Write, Kent State- it gets old. That's just me, though. It's probably irrelevant, as scUM has too much pride and tradition to succumb to that sort of mediocrity.

Don't mistake my post for a loss of interest. And don't forget about the first 15 contests (0-13) at the turn of the century. Is that relevant?

Incorrect. Nothing other than a hypothetical scenario that's been dissected as seen fit through trolling. Please read my post. I'm all for a good discussion, but not senseless banter. I'm done here.

The RED games are 1 score games
The GRAY games are 10 point games
The BLACK games are losses
The BLUE games are wins

5: 1 possession games
1: Tie game
2: 2 possession games
3: Blown out twice, 11 points in the 3rd one
2: Blew out scUM

IMO, thats hardly not being competitve.

8/13 games we either won or were within one possession.
