I can't hear the band play the start of Carmen Ohio, without hearing the bells at Orton Hall and feeling a deep emotional attachment to The Ohio State University.

I actually see a man who cares very deeply about this rivalry struggling to control an emotional release of pain.

I think its important to point this out.

Harbaugh gets it, he's lived it, he wants nothing more than a win over The Ohio State University. Contrast that attitude to how casual Rich Rod was about The Game or even Hoke in comparison to Jim.

Rod as an opponent was a total abomination to what we crave in this rivalry. Hoke not far off. Both paid lip service to those who this means so much to.

So while I'm beyond happy about the win and I'm looking forward at more to come, I must say it's nice to have a worthy opponent across that field whose passion for this one Saturday in November might be every bit as intense as our own.

I see a man who cannot believe that, despite the glimmer of incredible defense, he and his staff seem to have made no progress at all toward that step up that he imagined as recently as yesterday morning. I see a man struggling to understand how to play smashmouth rock 'n roll, when he has instruments with no strings. I see a man feeling shame and embarrassment, who is too much of a gentleman to call out the reporters who are baiting him for soundbites as if he were wounded prey. I see a man in deep psychological pain trying to avoid answering questions that will reveal why the team he loves and coaches was not at all up to the challenge. I see a man in deep inward pain.


And I feel bad about myself and what it says about my inability to empathize with his pain, because deep down inside, I find that I really like it.

Actually, this clip shows why as a defensive player right now Peppers is possibly the most overhyped player in the Big 10. When he could use his athletic ability to blow up screen plays he looks all world. But he is only average in coverage and over runs plays in the open field.
