BPCFFB League #2 League Champion 2008 & 2010
I am sick of reading the posts on BN about this Izzy and Ira incident. Such comments as "I've been thinking, is this what it takes to have a national championship program" , are you retarded? Does our staff comb the juvenile detention halls, looking for the biggest guys. Lets face it, these kids are just that...kids. They need to make better decisions, especially because of the positions they are in. But we all do stupid things, I had my share of fights when I was in college... and that's what this is. I highly doubt they staked out the corner in ski masks, looking to steal the 20 or 30 dollars this kid had in his wallet. I'm sure the alleged victim isn't so innocent, you don't find people going to church at 3 am on 19 th ave.

So now all these posters, begin to question Jim Tressel and the rest of the team. Give me a break.... incidents happen in every program, that's just the way it is.

What really amuses me is the people getting all worked up about Branden Joe's open container. I can think of few things in the world that interest me less. Some of those people are probably the same ones griping that they can't have their open containers when their tailgating. People put a higher moral standard on football players often times then they do to themselves. Or all the people who glowingly reminisce about being in college and going out and getting hammered. If a football player was arrested for underage drinking, they'd want his scalp. Obviously robbery/assult, if true, is a different animal. But for minor things...I mean, open container is no worse than a speeding ticket.

Getting arrested for a felony is not simply a "stupid thing"

but I agree, sadly this is nothing special in college sports.

All in all a good post Nixon. You hit many things right on the head.

People put a higher moral standard on football players often times then they do to themselves.
This is true many times. It is a result of living in a society that worships athletics. Society tends to put athletes (not just football players) on a pedestal and claim that as a result, they must be role models.

There is two things you can say here.

1) It should have not happened and is not in the least bit acceptable. To say that: "well these things happen" or that "it's the norm" is justifing it. It is not acceptable. These kids when they signed their commitment paperwork agreed to play football, and to REPRESENT THE UNIVERSITY. This is not the type of representation we want, nor should expect. I don't think there is anything anyone can say that is going to make me change my mind on this. To say we all have done it, is not true. Some may have, but not all. Also to say we all have done it is to hold these students representatives of our University, whom we are paying their room, board, tuition, etc to a lower standard than they should be at.

2) Now that #1 has been established and is not changed. It is true that thes are kids and they will make mistakes. It is also true that the facts are not known right now, and this could be a mistake. It is also not fair to say that because a player is talented he must be a thug, or because one player acts stupid that we are in a renegade program. Some things need to be addressed and I still feel that we have the right man in their to address them. The mistakes, and issues will not go completely away, even if we recruit only, High GPA, good familty background, studing to be ministers. Recruiting only those kids is also not practical.
