12 team keeper league (1st year). I had the 1st pick (I changed at the last minute to LT). Keeper rules are a little different. 1 keeper from your 1st five picks, 1 from rounds 6-10, and 1 from 10+. Keeping a guy costs you 3 rounds next year from where he was picked. We start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 RB/WR, 1 TE, 1 D, and 1 K.

QB Eli Manning
QB Trent Green
RB LaDainian Tomlinson
RB Chester Taylor
RB Fred Taylor
RB Cedric Benson (7th round...possible 2nd keeper)
RB Verron Haynes
WR Larry Fitzgerald
WR TJ Houshmandzadeh
WR Ernest Wilford
WR Terry Glenn
WR Chad Jackson (11th round...possible 3rd keeper)
TE Jason Whitten
TE Leonard Pope (Flyer in the 15th)
K John Kasay
D Patriots
D Chargers

One sidenote...a guy took Greg Jones right before me in the 10th...he originally took Chris Perry. I stated after the pick he was hurt. Everyone let him change his pick and he took Jones.

I'm mixed on my results. If I could have Jones instead of Haynes I would be much happier.

Wait... you picked LT with the 1st pick overall in a KEEPER league???? :smash:

First off the rule of thumb in keeper leagues is to pick the YOUNGER stud RB. LJ is going to have huge numbers and he only has 1 year of wear and tear on him.

I wouldn't count on Cedric Benson being a keeper with the amount of times he has been banged up and injured already in his pro career.

Besides that you have a solid team. You will need a better TE as Witten's numbers are going to go down again. Also your RB depth needs some help. With LT & Chester as your starters you will have a hard time finding a 3rd RB to start the flex position.

LJ is going to sorely miss Roaf & Richardson... their running game was pretty sad during their last preseason game.

LT and LJ are the same age, last year's KC offense is no longer in place, and LJ lost 2 good/great OL along with Shields being injured. I understand the wear and tear angle, but I saw too many backs last year go from boom to bust (see the Jones boys in Dallas and Detroit). LT has proven it over many seasons. A flop with the first pick would ruin me, and LJ has a higher flop possibility. Trust me, it was not an easy decision.

As for Benson, I agree. Yet not many RB keepers left by rounds 6-7 (remember I pick last in the 6th). Huge run in the 6th. Also, I understand Whitten may not be that great due to TO, but I took him really late. It was him or a bunch of also rans that play 1/2 the time.

As for the flex I am hoping Fred Taylor stays healthy. If not, you are right. I am screwed. Hence the anger about Jones.

Thanks for the input. I may be proven totally wrong concerning LT. Time will tell.

It looks like in your keeper league you really needed to grab a good young RB. McAllister is injury prone and will lose touches. Brown is still a starter but on the way out. One more RB and you would have a really good team.

yeah, most people correctly kept 2 RBs, so when it came time for my pick, McAllister was the best available. I'm hoping he gets traded to some team so he is the clear #1. Although, lets remember, Bush is a rookie. I expect the same thing you say here - taking carries from Deuce... but.. that's only "assumed' at this point.... That is, it's assumed Bush will be successful all year long (and not face injury himself)

McAllister won't get traded this year, he just signed a big contract extension.
