The Many Troubles of Marcus Vick (merged)

The only time Vick has stayed out of trouble was when he lived with his brother after getting kicked of the team the first time. I would be surprised, but not stunned if the Falcons took a flier on him in the 6th-7th round (assuming he is not in prison). As a fan of the Falcons, their owner Arthur Blank has a so-called "Falcon filter" which means they will not take guys with questionable reputations. This was sited as one of the reasons Atlanta will not entertain the thought of signing T.O. Just food for thought as the Falcons don't have a third stringer next year as Ty Detmer will reportedly retire. The only one that can keep Marcus on the straight and narrow is Michael, although this kid seems to screw up at every possible opportunity.

The one thing that bothers me about Vick and his situation is, where is his big brother? I have a little brother and there is absolutely no way I would let my brother go down this path......I don't care what it took to get through to him. FWIW.
Big brother sounds like he is around as much as possible. How long should you have to baby-sit a 20 year old man. Part of the problem IMO was Michaels' money. I believe Marcus' first vehicle was a Cadillac Escalade if that tells you anything. Marcus had everything at his fingertips and IMO acted like he was the multi-million dollar superstar. He has a better chance of ending up in prison than the Pro Bowl at this point.

I can see the new ad campaign now: "Marcus Vick, the Kermit Washington of football"

I read about "the punch"-forget the title of the book, maybe it was "the punch" and the book makes it clear that Washington was-and is-a classy guy who made one horrible decision on court that still haunts him. Marcus Vick is a trashy, punk-ass thug. On talent he is worth a 4th or 5th round pick as a receiver-not a QB,IMO, but he is not worth wasting the time on, or drawing the negative media coverage for drafting him.

It's gotta be hard trying to live up to the path Michael put down. Everyone telling you how good you have to become. But this is getting ridiculous. What goes through these kid's heads when they make these kind of decisions. Not only for the common civilian but for practically a celebrity does he think nobody will recognize him. Or is he naive/arrogant enough to believe he can get away with it.

Unsuspecting teenager-"Hey look there's Marcus Vick. Don't piss him off or he'll step on you."
MV-"Hey screw you (gun pulled)"
Unsuspecting teen-"What the hell are you doing you stupid ass?"

I seriously don't think I have seen anyone screw something up so bad. I mean you would have thought he would be in shock after getting kicked outta Va Tech, and now he goes and pulls a gun out on some kids. Talk about trying your hardest to destroy the little speck of NFL stock that you had.

Does anyone else think that part of the Vick problem may have to do with how much attention, energy, and money is thrown at these young fools?
I think in the case of Marcus, the kid has grown up around money, and not just his big brother's. Tidewater, VA, where both Vick's are from, is also the home of Allen Iverson, Ronald Curry, and Aaron Brooks (cousin to the Vick family).

Marcus Vick has been around teen athletes-turned-multimillionaires his entire life.

What do we expect when we shower all this focus on these athletes starting when they are only 12-13. One need look no further than Lebron etc( not that he is a bad guy)...These kids grow up getting into trouble doing bad things and no one makes them accountable for their actions because of their athletic talents on the field. Maybe if we disciplined them earlier on they could learn a lesson.

As a former coach in what is considered an outlaw program...no pun intended living in AZ and all...I WOULD BET ALL ME MONEY on the fact that Vick has had SEVERAL previous transgressions that were handled in house by the coaches...including his hs coach all because he could run and throw...SO, if they had drawn the line previously...we wouldnt be here talking about what an idiot he is...because, to be fair the blame does deserved to be evenly distributed amongst fans, coach's, and parents!

I certainly agree that blame needs to be shared, but can hardly agree that it needs to be distributed evenly. When it comes down to it, he probably was given preferential treatment, and there probably were other incidents that were swept under the rug, but he is the one who continues to commit the transgressions. His parents, his brother, his coaches, and VT fans weren't out there pulling the gun on these people. Spreading the blame too evenly is once again giving him a pass on being accountable for his own decisions.

I had the feeling that he was done before I heard about any alleged incident with a gun. I would not have been surprised if he wasn't going to be drafted in the NFL - at least not as a quarterback. Every time I saw him play (which, I admit, was about 1 1/2 games this year - vs. Miami and and about half of their bowl game), he didn't look very good. They say he played very well in some games, but not against good defenses. I'm sure that even Miami doesn't have a defense that compares to anyone in the NFL.

But like I said, I only saw him a little bit this year. Does anyone here think he was good enough to get drafted?

From what I saw, he had some very raw potential. He was a much better passer than Michael was at that point in their development with better QB mechanics...not as fleet of foot though. He needed his senior season to continue to grow. A couple days ago I would have expected a team to take a flier on him on day 2 of the draft. After this incident, I'm not so sure. It is obvious he is a troubled young man with SERIOUS character issues. Even more serious than MoC last April, and we all know how that turned out. :shake:
