Dominic Canzone drafted in the 8th round by the Arizona Diamond Backs

OSU's Dominic Canzone taken by D'Backs in 8th round of MLB Draft

Canzone was widely projected as a fourth or fifth-round pick, so he certainly slid more than expected. For example, MLB.com ranked him as the No. 144 prospect available entering the draft. The slot value signing bonus for the No. 144 pick is $379,000. However, the slot signing bonus for the No. 242 pick is $170,300. Still a good chunk of change, just not what the OSU star anticipated.

Canzone could decide to return to Ohio State for his senior season in 2020, but that seems highly unlikely.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State freshman shortstop Zach Dezenzo was named a 2019 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American, powered by Diamond, the newspaper announced Wednesday morning. Dezenzo, from Alliance, Ohio, becomes the 17th Freshman All-American in Ohio State baseball history and the first since Ronnie Dawson and Tanner Tully in 2014.

Dezenzo, who was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, powered 10 homers, the second-most by a Big Ten freshman this past spring. He became the first Buckeye freshman to launch 10 homers in a season in 18 years (Doug Deeds, 14; 2001). The OSU shortstop was a starter in the Buckeye lineup since Opening Day, getting the nod in 58 games, including 41 starts at shortstop and 17 starts at third base. He tallied 54 hits and scored 25 runs, while driving in 37 with nine doubles and one triple. Dezenzo had two multi-homer games, collecting a total of 13 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI contests.

Don't worry. They committed 5 errors in letting UCLA comeback to beat them last night. They are going down hard today.

Just like basketball, a run in the NCAA tourney gets them all lathered up but in the end, they come up short and it's another trophy-less season

At lest the baseball Bucks won something in 2019.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State junior left-handed pitcher Andrew Magno was named a third team All-American by Baseball America Monday afternoon. Magno, from Dublin, Ohio, becomes the 52nd All-American in Ohio State history. Magno is the second Buckeye pitcher to be named an All-American in the last two years (Seth Kinker, 2018).

Magno, the Big Ten Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player, was magnificent during his junior season in leading a young Buckeye bullpen to a Big Ten Tournament championship and NCAA Regional appearance. A two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and two-time OSU Scholar-Athlete, Magno made a team-high 31 appearances posting a 5-3 record and a 2.09 ERA, the lowest ERA among B1G pitchers. Magno tallied the second-most saves in the conference with 14, which ranks seventh on the OSU single-season saves list. He limited opposing hitters to a .205 average with 75 strikeouts in 64.2 innings pitched.

Last week, Magno was taken in the 15th round by the Detroit Tigers in the 2019 MLB Draft.

    Other nuggets on Magno:

    • Guided the Buckeyes to the Big Ten Tournament title after recording four saves during the team’s championship run in Omaha, including two saves on championship Sunday. He allowed no runs in 9.2 scoreless innings of relief, working 3.1 shutout innings with four strikeouts in the B1G title game vs. Nebraska in front of more than 17,000 fans at TD Ameritrade Park.
    • Named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team in the Nashville Regional, throwing a career-high 7.1 innings of relief with a career-high 12 strikeouts in the win over McNeese June 1. His postseason performance tied for the most strikeouts by a relief pitcher this season.
    • Also fanned an impressive 11 hitters in 4.0 innings of relief at Maryland April 20.
    • Appeared in 51 career games with 88 strikeouts in 73.2 innings pitched.
    • Helped the Buckeye pitching staff break the school record for strikeouts in a season (583).
