The Ohio State Baseball (Official Thread)

Just thought i'd add...Cleve posted the initial list of recruits several weeks ago, and you may have noticed that the list i posted was missing a name..Pitcher from Texas Clayton Crum .

Crum opted to sign a LOI with the University of Texas. That sucks, right? Well, Crum is only a year removed from Tommy John surgery . We have enough scarred arms on the staff already, so i'm not too bummed about it.

Good luck to Clayton at UT. It's hard not to be happy for the kid..UT is his dream school.

Same high school

Jacob Hayes and A.J. Reed both played at Terre Haute South. Jacob did not attend Terre Haute North. In fact, he and his fellow seniors never lost a Sectional the entire 4 years they were there. Of course, A.J. was a big part of that success for 3 of those years.

Jacob and A.J. are good friends. We thought that he might follow Jacob to Ohio State. I think if Coach Beals had had more time, A.J. might have become a Buckeye. Coach Beals came to Terre Haute two weekends ago to see A.J. pitch. All he did was strike out 19 batters in a 7 inning game.

Kentucky was on AJ early and staye with him. It's a shame we lost out. He's a big time 2 way player. He'll be drafted out of high school, it's just a matter of how high and what kind of $ he is offered.

Looks like RHP John Dezse (Olentangy Liberty) is going to enroll and NOT sign with the Yankees. I have been sweating this for a while, but things are looking good as the signing deadline approaches.

Dezse has a big time arm. He has been clocked in the mid 90's and consistently hits 92-93 on the gun..losing him would sting. Dezse has the best chance to make an impact of our incoming pitchers, imo

ya know, If certain guys make it to campus and if others recover fully from injury, the pen may be pretty good next year!

The B9 and others reporting that LHP Matt Panek of Cary-Grove HS, in Cary, Illinois has committed to Ohio State. Another solid pitching prospect for the '11 class.

Also, C Eric Hasse from Michigan has committed to Ohio State. Haase is listed as the #3 prospect in the state of Michigan. Full list is here: http://michiganbaseballprospects.org/rankings/2011-rankings/ .

Michigan's top prospect recently picked South Carolina over tOSU and others.

Patch senior Cavan Cohoes awaits a pitch from professional baseball teams who are said to be interested in drafting the two-time All-Europe shortstop.

Cavan Cohoes, shown tagging out a runner on an attempted steal while playing for the Kaiserslautern military community in the 2009 European Senior League tournament, has a good chance of being picked in major-league baseball's 2011 amateur draft or of playing Division I college baseball next season.

There?s a reason Patch senior Cavan Cohoes, a European semifinalist two years ago, isn?t playing tennis this season.

He?s got bigger fish to fry.

Lots bigger.

Cohoes, an All-Europe shortstop who batted .446 and compiled a fielding percentage of .925 last spring, is using his spare time this fall preparing to play baseball on a far grander stage in 2011 ? either as a pro or for NCAA Division I Ohio State.

It?s a choice he?ll make this June, and it?s based on solid offers.

?I?ve verbally committed to play for Ohio State,? Cohoes said by telephone Monday. ?They told me that as of now, I?m their starting shortstop.?

damn thats a new one....hope he makes it to Columbus!
I didn't even know they had professional baseball teams over in Europe. In fact, I didn't even know that they played baseball in Europe. I believe there are some military teams but this certainly doesn't sound like one of them. I wonder what the pitching is like over there in one of those leagues.
