The Ohio State Softball (Official Thread)

The team looks solid this year. I saw them play at Kent State and last week in Columbus. Great new shortstop and the other freshmen look great. Lindsey pitched good but could only pitch 2 innings last week and needed iced down.

One complaint--the web site. While I was up at Kent State, their parents and fans wanted to make plans for Columbus the next week--but the web site was not updated until 2 days before the game and only then was the weekend games moved from Sat and Sunday to only Sunday. That decision had to have been made before the Friday before. Then this weekend--the games with Ohio University have been on the web site being on Saturday at 1:00 pm and 03:30 pm. Plans had been made---then on Friday, the schedule portion of the web site was changed to Sunday. I already had plans and could not attend today--no article was done on the web site--if I had not checked on Friday--I would have gone to Athens on Saturday--a waste of 2 hours drive. The web site needs updated more often so the fans know what is going on and with correct information.

Man, scooter is letting me down

The Lady Bucks got off to a tremendous start, winning their first 6 games, all on the road (needless to say). They defeated Southern Illinois (x2), The University of Maryland Baltimore County, Charleston, Sam Houston State, and Incarnate Word until falling to Texas-Arlington.

The Lady Bucks are in Arlington, TX for the UT-Arlington Maverick Invitational. From there they go to Palm Spring, California to take part in the Mary Nutter Classic with BYU, UCLA, Utah and UNLV

The Lady Bucks had kind of a rough stretch - losing to UT Arlington, UCLA and Utah. They did defeat Buffalo, UNLV and Fresno State.

In Feb/Mar they participated in the Wilson/Demarini Classic in Auburn, Alabama hosted by the Tigers. They split the four games defeating UConn and Samford and losing to host Auburn and Southern Illinois - Edwardsville.

The Lady Bucks stand at 11-5. They will travel to Seattle, WA to compete in the Husky Classic against Miami, OH (Freda?), Cal State Northridge and Washington. The games will be this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

After starting a nice 13-5, the Lady Bucks hit a terrible stretch, losing 7 games in a row, 5 at home and most in blowout fashion.

6-0 and 7-5 to the University of Washington
9-7 and 14-4 to Louisville
And then the nadir was being swept at home by dUMb 13-1, 13-1 and 20-0. The last 2 were stopped at 5 innings for the mercy rule.

Ugh.

The Lady Bucks did rebound with a double-header sweep of Wright State 7-2 and 10-2.

OSU currently stands at 15-12. They travel to College Park, MD for a three-game set the the Terrapins starting Friday.

McCombs leaves Louisville to play for Ohio State softball

Licking Valley graduate Shelby McCombs, a softball pitcher who spent her freshman year at Louisville, has transferred to Ohio State, Buckeyes coach Kelly Kovach Schoenly said.

McCombs went 10-5 last year for the Cardinals with a 2.87 ERA in 105 innings. She struck out 69 and had five complete games and two shutouts.

McCombs, a Newark native, finished second on the Cardinals squad in every major pitching category, and limited opposing batters to a .263 average.

man i thought the softball team was trending up the last couple of years. any insight?
Rebuilding and rebranding under Coach Schoenly. Her understanding of the speed game is better than that of Coach Kalafatis.

It will take some time, maybe three more years or so, for her to bring in the recruits she likes and get the results she needs for the program to sell itself.

Having some local kids coming home from other programs is a great step in the right direction.
