The Ohio State University at ttun, Sunday, 1 PM, CBS

It is like NFBuck has stated. They are playing with house money right now. At the beginning of the season no one thought that this team would be ranked at all and here they are ranked in the top 10 in the country. That is ridiculous. All the guys on this team have to be hitting on their top cylinders for the entire team to win.

KBD has to stop thinking about the NBA and play a little harder. If he thinks there is contact in college, he is not going to play very well at the next level. When guys are physical with him, he just does not play very well and he certainly does not put forth a great deal of effort the way Tate does.

I hope that Holtmann can build a bench in the future. Matta never did and it was always their Achilles heel.
If you look around CBB, not a ton of teams have a lot of good players coming off the bench. But yes, having a guy who can come in and drop 20 once in a while would be a huge boost.

The truth is this OSU team overachieved record-wise early in the B1G season. Now they are playing to their talent level. They need to build a stronger basketball team and they need much better guard play before they will truly be back to a top-10 level.

They will be lucky to hold a top 20 ranking. Never expected them to accomplish this but lose the last two and bow out of the B1G Tourney after 1 game and this could still be a bubble team that finds itself in the NIT.

Most everything I have seen has them at a 100% lock for the tournament. Even if they lost the last 3 they would be 22-10 with wins over MSU, Purdue, and TTUN. They will be in the NCAAs but I'm not sure where they will go from there

I'm not going to freak out over a couple of poor performances by a team that's clearly gassed and needs a few days off. They're still in line for a double bye and still capable of making tournament runs. Feel free to be pessimistic bitches if they lose to Rutgers.

I also don't see how pre-season expectations are at all relevant in mid-February. Games have been played and the last time a poll came out, this team was #8 and on their way to a conference championship. Expecting them to not take two double-digit losses to two okay teams in four days is perfectly rational.

I hope you have some patience along with other people because the bench will not be very deep next season either. It is going to take may be 2-3 more seasons to really build a deep team.
Never said it had to be in the next season. I get it that the cupboard was pretty bare. It was more a statement of what has been a problem for this team for some time.

I'm relaxed. My po
They'll probably drop to the 15-18 range in the polls and they have enough quility wins. They're in.

Everybody needs to take a deep breath.
I'm relaxed.

My point is that losing five games in a row to end the season, including two teams outside the top 2 quartiles would certainly drop the Buckeyes outside the top 25 and maybe, given other teams getting hot and climbing, out of the NCAA. I dont think it's probable, but what I've seen the last two games tells me to temper my expectations.

If this team went to the NIT and won it, I'd still be over the moon.

A couple bad games in a row. The offense is stale the past couple of games. Teams are doubling KBD and no one else is really scoring. C.J. has been the big difference I feel, and Kam, from when this team was a top ten team vs where they are now, playing like a #30 team. C.J. is just not getting it done for several games now. The ball moves better with Dakich, maybe that is part of the answer on O.

I still want to see the ball go through the post too.

CJ was actually the only guy who played above average against PSU. I don't think CJ is the main problem in and of himself, though lack of quality guard depth and versatility (we have no taller guards and very little athleticism in the backcourt) is certainly an issue and we've known all season long it would be. But yeah, in this particular game both CJ and Dakich were awful.

Tate stepped up today and Andre did some good things. Those were really the only two guys who played above their average. KBD was really inefficient and everyone else just didn't bring much positive.

Holtmann fulfilled DZ's wishes and played Young a lot, to the point where he didn't even play Potter, but it didn't help much this game. I am starting to wonder what Young's future is going to look like with this program because substitute big is not a role he will probably ever excel in, but he hasn't show enough shooting or perimeter skill yet in college to make me think he is going to be an effective scorer for us any time soon. I guess we'll see. With Ledee coming in next season, Young's minutes definitely aren't guaranteed.

Young would have been really good if he could have just finished around the rim. Some of his misses were really costly. If he can become better around the rim and develop a 3 point shot he could be a really good player.

I can see a scenario where losing at home to Rutgers MIGHT put us in a little danger if we don't win another game. I'd say the odds are still really good we'd at least squeak into the Dance. I am not worried about it, and thankful that we've played well enough for the majority of the season to feel good about making the Dance, which didn't even really seem like a possibility in the pre-season.

Everyone hates what went on with schedule compression and the BTT this season but at the end of the day it's possible that a long lay-off before the Dance might be a bit beneficial for our team because it seems like they're stumbling to a finish right now in conference play and they might need some time to reflect, really regroup, and figure some ish out.
