Ohio State Women's Basketball (2023-24 B1G CHAMPS)

OSU Women defeated

No. 5 Baylor eases past No. 8 Ohio State, 85-68
The Associated Press 1h ago

ESTERO, Fla. (AP) Baylor headed to the beach shortly after arriving in balmy Florida for a long holiday weekend, getting a little time to bask in sun and ride down waterslides.

The rest of the trip for the Lady Bears? All business.

Alexis Jones scored 20 points and No. 5 Baylor beat eighth-ranked Ohio State 85-68 on Sunday in the championship game of the Gulf Coast Showcase. Tournament MVP Kristy Wallace scored 15 points and Beatrice Mompremier added 13 for the Lady Bears (7-1), who never trailed.

Came in here to bitch about this team making dumber mistakes than the men, but then they just went and made a 3 a the buzzer to send it to OT.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Keyona Hayes scored 23 points, Jessica Thomas added 16 and No. 18 Miami outlasted No. 9 Ohio State 94-89 in overtime Thursday night in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

Ohio State's Sierra Calhoun hit a 3-pointer at the regulation buzzer to tie it at 84. Then, Hayes' 3-pointer with 2:30 left in overtime put Miami (6-1) ahead to stay in the game that featured 13 lead changes.

Kelsey Mitchell led Ohio State (5-3) with 29 points on 5-for-11 3-point shooting, and Shayla Cooper added 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Mitchell hit a 3-pointer to pull Ohio State to within a point with 5 seconds left in overtime, but the Buckeyes were forced to start foul.

Laura Cornelius added 11 points, and Erykah Davenport had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Hurricanes.

Losing to anyone with a pulse is not encouraging.

Wins: Cleveland State, Ashland, Duquense, LIU Brooklyn, Florida Gulf Coast, Syracuse
Losses: #4 South Carolina, #5 Baylor, #18 Miami (FL)

ACC owned the B1G men and now it seems to the women as well. :shake:

Rarely have I seen a team try so hard to lose a game. At least three stupid turnovers on lazy inbounds plays, several easy shot by Miami late in the shot clock, horrible shots by Mitchell in critical situations, and missed free throws when it counted.

Should have easily won that game.

That said, there are a lot more newcomers on this team than I had realized. They are extremely talented and if they can get their act together will dominate the B1G.

Maryland is awfully good this year so I think it will be between Ohio State and the Terps for the title.

I know that @OSU_Buckguy said that is very difficult to lose a game at the free-throw line. I hope that he was talking just about the men's game because the ladies missed so many free throws in the last few minutes of the game they could have won it in regulation. Watermen was especially bad. I believe she went 0-5 down the "stretch".

In addition, Kelsey Mitchell has become more of a team oriented player for them to become really good. There are other ballers on this year's team and she needs to recognize that and play more within a team concept. She must realize that it does not like last year where she almost had to carry the team on her back.

We crushed the Juggalos last Sunday and took care of Southern this past Wednesday..
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State topped 100 points for the second time this season in Wednesday’s 108-73 win over Southern University at Value City Arena. The victory puts the Buckeyes at 7-3 on the year and drops the Jaguars to 2-3.

Most notably for Ohio State, Kelsey Mitchell scored 23 points to reach 2,000 for her career. The Cincinnati native became the seventh Buckeye to reach that benchmark and she did so in just 79 games, the fewest of any player in NCAA history. The junior was 6-for-11 from the field and 9-for-10 from the charity stripe.

If they ever want to actually be elite someone better teach some defense. McGuff better find an assistant to help with it. He will always have a good to very good team because he can recruit but will never be truly elite with ZERO defense.
I have to agree. Tons of talent, but they don't always play like a well coached basketball team.

Actually, they rarely play like a well coached team.
