The Polls (AP, Coaches, & CFP, etc.)

How Nick Saban voted in final Coaches Poll

Nick Saban believes his football team is one of college football's best this season.

Without injuries, maybe even one of the top four.

According to final Coaches Poll ballots released by USA Today, Saban voted his team No. 5, four spots better than their final ranking following the season-ending loss to Auburn in November. Expected to compete for a national title this fall, the Crimson Tide lost two regular-season games for the first time in nearly a decade, succumbing to struggles defensively, injuries and a lack of discipline.

Junior quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's season-ending hip ailment suffered late in the first half during a win at Mississippi State capsized Alabama's Playoff hopes in Week 12, leaving the Crimson Tide without their leader and Heisman candidate.

Dabo Swinney's outcries for respect fell on deaf ears in Tuscaloosa as Saban ranked Clemson third — just like the Playoff selection committee — behind LSU and Ohio State, respectively. This is the first time in the Playoff era the Crimson Tide won't play in a semifinal game, ending the nation's admirable streak.

After sliding to No. 13 in the final committee rankings, Alabama was paired with Michigan in the Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1 in Orlando, a matchup of national titans who fell short of lofty expectations....:slappy:

OH HELL YES. Christmas came early – it seems an eight-team playoff model is actually in the works.

I've long been an eight-team skepticist, but I'm extremely down with this.

My lone complaint with just expanding the current playoff system to eight teams is that I wanted conference championships to matter, and eight at-large bids wouldn't really do it. But this sure will, while still allowing some wiggle room for clearly deserving teams.

Now, let's talk about playing that opening round on campus...

This season more than any in a while is an argument NOT to expand the playoff.

We don't need to make sure that we got the 4th best or 8th best team in the playoff. Only that we got the best. And there is no reasonable argument that the best is not one of OSU, LSU or Clemson.

But we will go to 8 teams and someday we will have the equivalent of a Florida Marlins baseball or Villanova basketball National Champ.

Somebody ought to start a thread on the football playoff.

Calling BS tOSU 2013 undefeated dropped from 2 to 7 after losing in conference championship.

COMMITTEE

there wasn’t one of those in ‘13.

this year Georgia, Baylor, Wisconsin, and Virginia fell a combined total of 2 spots.

this IMO is better than the old system where you would plummet below teams you beat who didn’t even qualify for the Conference CG.

OK....how about why in the fuck Georgia was 4 to begin with?

Kirby Smart was giving out blowjobs to committee members?

Don’t you SEC bro? A different world an LSU fan defending Ga. You’d never see it in the Big 10. We are different.

whoa!

don’t lump me in with the rest of those jackasses.

i was not defending UGA. I couldn’t give fewer fucks about them.
i was pointing out that the committee typically doesn’t move the CCG losers very far (if at all).
