The Refs (sugit maximus)

joefoshow

I post when I want
I like most sports fans do not like a game decided by the refs whether it be a non-call or a call that is a bit sketchy. But here is how I view it if it is a blatant foul you need to call it even if it decides a game. So I was wondering if anyone else shared the same views as me.

It will be tough, but I will try to do something that sounds smart.

I think it is absurd when the talking heads say the officials shouldn't decide a close game by making a call in a close contest down the stretch.

Games have rules. The officials job is to enforce the rules. It is when the officials decide to let things slide that they are deciding the game - not when they make the calls they are supposed to make.

Now, where do we merge this? Or do we clutter our boards with a thread titled "The Refs"?

I liKed Leary in that flick BTW.

This is true, and honestly I think they should let them play more than they do during the game...bumps should be part of the game...

The way I would officiate down the stretch is the way I would officiate all game...Of course I would let just a little more down the stretch as you let the players decide the game unless you absolutely have to make the call...

But that is kind of my point. If the rule is don't bump and you bump and the ref calls it - the player decided the call by bumping, not the ref. If the ref doesn't call it the ref is deciding the game by not making the call.

As for calling it close or calling it loose - just make it consistent. But don't change the rules because the game is close or the situation is critical.

Despite what some seem to believe, officials are trained and evaluated. The guys who are graded poorly don't get big games like bowls and playoffs. Amazingly, they're still not perfect...kind of like the players and coaches.
