The show "Modern Marvels" on History Channel

**DRUNK POST WARNING**

I always wondered how "Modern" Marvels gets on the "History" Channel, but it doesn't change how good of a show it is. "Engineering Disasters" is always my favorite.

I love all things History Channel from "Movies in Time" to "Hitler's Henchmen" to "Wild West Tech." And you can't forget.........[cadence] "Who's got the best show on TV?[/cadence]........"

When football season ends, to when it begins again, it's very nearly the only channel I watch. An occasional "American Justice" or "Science of Tsunamis" on A&E or Discovery are the only shows that distract me from the History Channel.

EDIT: PS--I'm watching "Hardcore History" right now because I'm hardcore like that.

I love the History channel, but some of their stuff on WWII is so far out there. I love how they say if Japan or Germany could have won the war if a few planes came a long earlier. It is so funny that it is kind of sad. The only way Japan or Germany could have won the war is if each economy was 5 or 6 times bigger, and if Germany prepared to fight an all out war in 39 instead of late 43. Also there was a big issue of natural resourses that these two countries had to deal with, as in oil neither had close to enough.

Thump, think I caught a few glimpses of the bridges falling and the freighter ramming the dock in NO. Was chasing my eight month old around the room more than watching, the little guy can scoot.

I love the History channel shows like "Ball turret gunner", or the Air Craft Carrier that McCain was on that had the fire. Whenever I see a Veteran I have to say thank you. What those men experienced and endured for our Country is amazing.

I saw that French revolution show. Interesting that Marat Safin, the Russian tennis player who just won the Aussie Open (he also won the 2000 US Open) is named after Marat, the French guy they talked about in the show.

Marat was the sickly guy who wrote diatribes from his bathtub all day long. He kept inciting the crowds into killing loads of people. Eventually, he was stabbed by a woman, while in his tub, and the woman went on trial for his murder. Pretty sure she got guillotined after her trail.

It's odd to me that Safin's parents apparently considered the French Marat some sort of hero.

I would just like to thank everybody for getting me hooked on this damn show. I have been watching it relentlessly for about three weeks now. I sat there for an hour last night watching a profile of semi trucks that have to drive across frozen lakes to deliver supplies to secluded mining camps in the Northwest Territories. I hate you all!

I watched Modern Marvels religiously about two years ago, then finally got a reprieve of about 3 months once the History Channel rotation turned over and they were all reruns. Once I thought I had absorbed most everything the History Channel had to air, along comes Mail Call (my first cousin is lead editor for the show). Then, last year I thought I had finally seen every episode of Mail Call ...

... then I switched to the Discovery Channel and found Mythbusters.

It's hopeless, and theres a Modern Marvels: Engineering Disasters marathon on tonight too. :(

EDIT: My favorite History Channel shows are (were) Conquest and the 2-part documentary "TR: An American Lion"

Mythbusters---Those guys have the best jobs in the world. Did you see them blow up the cement truck? Holy Smokes!!

Engineering Disasters---Great show. I can't get enough.

Conquest---I loved that show as well. What happened to it?

TR:American Lion---I've watched this several times. Loved it.

I love that show too. I liked the one about the Kansai Airport over in Japan.

I have been watching a lot of Nat Geographic lately. If you have not seen the best of Explorer show yet, you have to watch it. They have without a doubt the most amazing camera footage I have ever seen. The one about the breaching great white sharks was amazing. I can't wait to see HAYN's shit show up on that channel.
Used to be a big fan of Discovery and TLC, but it seems as they have been taken over by the Reality/home makeover/improvement type shit that I can't stand.

Nasty, that zipperhead airport is amazing. I thought I remember them saying it was sinking a few inches per year....would like to see a follow up documentary. Didn't hey move mountains and dump it in the water to create this island airport?
