The Walking Dead (Official Thread)

Well, I thought Coral’s acting wasn’t awful, he wasn’t too overly dramatic for the most part. I also think it was a good thing that they kept the focus on him and not Rick, because Lincoln plays a pretty good mean Rick, and a decidedly awful sad Rick. So, all in all, it was OK for what it was. It was overdone in terms of length, but at least it wasn’t overly B-movie level hammy.
The interesting things, I guess, at least in terms of the story, were from the Rick dreams, mainly a) the old man Rick dreams were Carl’s dreams, not Rick’s, b) The child in the dream was Judith, not Gracie as had been speculated online, and c) Negan was in it at the end, which was hammy. However, the others in the dream, as far as I could tell, were Rick, Michonne, Judith, Eugene, Jerry, and Siddiq. That leaves the door open for anyone else to die (Carol, Darryl, Rosita, Tara, Aaron, Enid, Eze-E, Maggie) if the dream is to be believed. The lame-osity of this is the fact that they will use the “I will make the dream real!” to justify Rick not killing Negan when he gets the chance, which is horribly weak and terribly lame, at best. I get what they are trying to do, but you can only suspend disbelief so far, and believing that Rick is just going to let Negin live is beyond anything I can swallow, no matter what the fuck he remembers about what his kid said.
The rest was more or less Rambo shit as usual, of course they pour it on thick with the kid killing the douchenozzle that ran the crew that killed his brother. If this show is trying to be complex and set up scenarios of moral ambiguity, it would help if there was any, read: ANY, sympathy possible for the people they are trying to do so with. But they have done this again and again, whether it’s this fuckstick or Negin or Gareth or the Governor or Gregory, the entire moral equivalence falls flat on its tits when the other people have zero redeeming qualities.

Well, Rick not killing negan would be in line with the comic arc.

I haven't watched Walking Dead since Rick and crew went to Virginia and took over that little town and the very last episode I remember Dark Rick came back... is it worth trying to get back into or no?

I got out a couple years ago. Reading these posts is as close as I come to being pulled back in.

I thought the last episode was good but...

Carl's death was pretty damn insignificant. It was very sad to me because the last season or so I came around on Carl, but just him getting bit trying to save some random person in a scenario characters routinely get out of unscathed on the show. Really thought he would have gone down in a blaze of glory and take out someone significant in the Saviors, or even Negan. Instead, he dies in a sewer. I get that he held them up and likely saved the group, but still just feels like a pretty significant death in the show to happen like that.

I can see this POV, but I’d rather see that than the blaze of glory deaths personally. It’s supposed to be a consistently dangerous environment, where no one is safe (except for Negin, apparently). I guess to me it’s like war, some guys die gallantly falling on a grenade to save someone else, others get hit by a Jeep during a training exercise. To me, it should be randomer than it has been on the show, given the fact that every death seems to be a random nobody most of the time.

I certainly understand that perspective as well. You almost go numb to the run of the mill walker attacks on this show when main characters shrug it off every time. They needed a major death and I guess the more I look back on it, this was pretty well done overall and was definitely a surprise.

welp. There goes another useless group they never should have created, couldn’t figure out what to do with, and then eliminated without them ever having a purpose. That was some Gawd-awful CGI in the grinder too.

Pretty much everything about that episode was bad except for the slight twinge of joy experienced in seeing the garbage people get killed. And usually I am entertained by Simon. But the whole "MICHONNE" "NEGAN" etc. shit was ridiculously cheesy. Then yeah, the garbage people story just concludes with no real purpose or explanation. Then the whole stupid Aaron/Enid side story...the flip flop on killing them because Enid gives some lame 30 second bit about why killing them is bad. Michonne trying to put out the fire on that structure because Carl used to sit on it (like that is sooo important to the story). Poorly done in almost every respect.
