so everyone is going to be hooked by the universal entertainment box even though they aren't supporting the one thing wanted by all: a la carte TV.

What a sad life he leads if he's been tethered to cable boxes. They are indeed depressing, ancient units (though most have had the phone call overlay feature, except theirs tell you about a phone call used by someone not a gimmick feature few use in Skype).

Directv boxes on the other hand have always been superb. The genie took it to another level. I have zero interest in another dvr and I certainly don't want one with xbox live pop-ups while I am watching. The fantasy football overlay gimmick is cute. Maybe if this was 2001 and we didn't all have second screens in our laps.

I think the game recording and broadcasting technology sounds sweet especially if developers can let friends watch.

At this point I need a compelling reason to buy one over the other. Better hardware is rhetoric I heard last time around (and it was true but turned out to not matter). Besides, most of the games will be programmed for both so the chances of truly utilizing the allegedly superior ps4 system are minimal.

streaming content from your Windows 8 pc ...

Not that I expect to stream much from my pc, but what about those who didn't upgrade to the touch screen oriented os?

If it could seamlessly play archived shows on a server accessible by an older os, that would be a nice feature. If I have to store my content locally on a Windows 8 box, I suspect that will be a much less utilized feature.
