Thread of What You've Eaten, Cooked and/or Drunk Lately

Christmas Dinner

Prime Rib au Jus with Creme Fraiche Horseradish and Yorkshire Puddings, Goose Fat Roasted Potatoes & Balsamic Glazed Brussel Sprouts and Pancetta. We did a traditional English Christmas pudding with brandy butter too. Lit the fucker on fire and everything.

Booze was Manhattans and English sparkling wine before. 2009 St Emilion with, and 21 year old brandy from Bologna after.

I mixed chicken and oriental flavored ramen to achieve a proper flavor balance for a fancy palette. I also discarded 1/4 of the ramen so that it stayed tasty. I then added a can of black beans to make the meal healthy, and some Tapatio hot sauce for some kick.

I'm pretty proud of myself.

Edit: I should clarify and expand this in case anyone wants to try at home. I threw out not quite half a pack of ramen, before cooking. Use two packs, mixing oriental with any other variety for optimal flavor achievement.

Also, mostly drain the ramen. This is not a soup people.

Finally, this pairs well with a 24 ounce can of Icehouse Edge beer. It sells for one dollar at Kroger, and is 8% alc./vol. So it is essentially four beers in a can.

The tiny bit of hops and malt in the beer showcase the secret oriental flavorings, and makes a party in your mouth.

Final edit: Just so nobody makes the same mistake I did, don't dribble high proof alcohol on the finished dish and light it on fire. The whole thing turns to mush. I was trying to impress a girl. :(

Final, final edit: So I met this girl on Tinder, and she had an 80s fetish complete with big hairsprayed hair. Of course it caught on fire. Happily, she had cancer and her hair was just a wig to hide her bald head, so we just threw it in the sink and had a good laugh. Well I laughed. I forget her name.

So, spoon or fork?

10Lbs of King Crab for dinner with the Sis-in-law and family at our place a couple nights ago. Had some crab left in the AM so I whipped up some hollandaise from scratch (never done it before and was quite pleased with the result) and made Eggs Benedict with the crab. Breakfast was better than dinner, and I didn't even have a bloody mary.

Well, I can't let ORD have all the fun here.... here's some pics of food I've made recently

Starting with steak done via the Reverse Sear method (this one was on the grille, though I also have made the same in the oven and with an iron skillet):

Then, I decided I wanted to learn how to make some deep dish Pizza...

Finally, for my birthday this past year, my wife, knowing how much I enjoy schezuan chicken, got me a cooking lesson from my favorite place to get said dish... here's my first solo effort:

All were delicious. This weekend, I'm making homemade spaghetti sauce. Then, I'll watch Ohio State kick the piss out of Climpson.

Looks terrible. I wouldn't feed it to your dog.

You're standing in urine.

incidentally, Tristono's is closed. :(

Yeah.....it sucks. Can't say I'm surprised....when he stopped selling beer & wine, I figured it was a liquor license/sales tax issue and it was. Bastard -- I still have two GC's that I didn't get to use.

EDIT - Yellow Brick Pizza in Old Town East apparently bought his recipes and brought Lou in to teach their staff how to make it. So they are selling something that should be comparable. But it's not a quarter mile away from me now, so nuts to that.

I wasn't aware that that was the issue. I had heard he was selling to someone else, teaching them the recipes and what not, but that it would remain open... and then.. it didn't.
