Thread of What You've Eaten, Cooked and/or Drunk Lately

So started chatting about pizza today with coworkers. Weird combos like taco pizza and hamburger pizza etc. I joked they needed a thanksgiving pizza and we all started saying what It could contain for fun.

The more we talked about it the more I thought what the hell lets do it. So that's what I did and it turned out amazing. Heres what I did.

1. Pizza dough was infused with spices you find in stuffing. So sage, poultry seasoning, parsley, white pepper, ground celery, and marjoram. Very heavy with the poultry seasoning!

2. Sauce was gravy. I just went with a canned option since my expectations were low. Heinz turkey gravy to be exact.

3. Toppings were sharp cheddar cheese, carved turkey, dried cranberry (lots), and crushed pecans.

The crust was dead on stuffing and the blend of the rest is really unique but it really does work well.

Anyways figured I'd share since its such a unique eat. Highly recommend!

For Chianti fans, Lamole de Lamole is one to look for. I had it during a trip to Florence with a steak Florentine dinner. Was so good it was one of two wines we bothered to pick up and lug all the way back home. I think we actually brought back two bottles of this stuff. Never saw it in the states until this month it was on the shelf of one of my local wine stores (in Connecticut).

If you see it and you generally like nice Chianti to enjoy with your local census taker, this is a good one.

BTW, if you find yourself in Florence and, in general, like a straight up, good steak, get the bistecca. Yes, it's touristy and expensive, but it's also awesome.

A cautionary tale,

So over the weekend got this gift box of Omaha "Steaks" (well, assorted steaks, pork, chicken, sausage some kind of potato side and some kind of apple dessert). I've heard of these things but never encountered one in person. The first yelp review wasn't inspiring (something like--these are usually gifts and no one wants to say to the gifter how shitty the gift was so this company has a profitable business plan in don't ask, don't tell). I guess I'm officially old when I get one of these (I'm in my 60s but I still have a fucking palate thank you).

Tonight my wife had to work late so we decided to have an Omaha Steak dinner (may have just heard her go out the door--probably headed to Burgerville). I have no words...the chicken Mcnugget of beef maybe? I've literally had better horse meat (steak cheval) in France. I've already thanked the gifter for the very nice gift but my dilemma is how to prevent further gifts of this nature. I wonder if the food bank will take this stuff because now the freezer is full and i don't think even a dystopian future could get me to eat any of this shit again. Drugs maybe. Like really, really bad drugs. You know, you really have to work hard to make Safeway and Kroger meat seem special. In that, Omaha Steaks, you have succeeded.
