Not eating anything yet, but I planted both Carolina Reapers and Trinidad scorpions in the garden this year. My first batch of chili this fall might literally kill me.

Got my first bright red scorpion out of the garden and had just the tiniest little nip off it. What the actual fuck is wrong with that thing? I have never tasted something so inherently evil before. 10 minutes, 2 glasses of milk, and a cup of yogurt later and I can feel my tongue again. And the reapers are even hotter? JFC!

Bleu Cheese dressing is my fire-extinguisher of choice. Dip bread in it for quick delivery.

I am not smart.

I think I might throw the rest of that pepper into a jar of salsa next time I can salsa and then let the recipients play pepper roulette when I give the jars away. That’s not an awful thing to do friends and/or family, right?

Food banks in Ann Arbor aren't going to fill themselves.

Got some ghost peppers and some Carolina Reapers as a gift yesterday, and had the first ghost a little while ago, by cutting it up and mixing it in with some salsa. There was some serious hotness involved, but I plan on finishing the ghosts and then giving the Carolinas a try. I am a known glutton for punishment.

Two points of advice. If you make hand contact with the ghost peppers, be sure not to thereafter touch your eyes, or your penis hole. As a Covid long-hauler, I ate a ghost pepper to see if I could taste again (I couldn't), but hooo boy did I make some other mistakes afterwards.

Both things are true, which I learned from habaneros somewhere along the way. Didn’t touch it while cutting it up.

Have fun with that! It looks like I might only get one reaper off the plant in the garden, but I have probably 40 scorpion peppers that are still green. I really have no idea what to do with those -- maybe make hot sauce or dehydrate them then grind into flakes. I swiped a pair of nitrile gloves from my wife's art bag for handling them.

My daughter came over today and we split one of the Carolina Reapers in half and cut it up, we each had a bowl with a little salsa mix. We put a glass of milk in the middle of the table, if either of us went for the milk we were admitting defeat.

We both finished, using tortilla chips to scoop; we had some flushed faces and some runny noses but no serious damage was done. We were both surprised that it only took a couple of minutes for the blazing heat in the mouth to subside.

It’s an hour later - my wife just drank that glass of milk.
