We won't have to. My whole point is that whatever is wrong with the offense will be addressed by, imo, the best offensive coach in CFB who happens to have ridiculous weapons at his disposal.

You can doubt all you like. I'm supremely confident that Urban will use the absurd talent at his disposal to fix whatever needs fixing and uh, the rest of CFB had damn well better get ready.

But it's whatever. I'm sure there's plenty of posters here that know more than me and Urban combined.

completely agree

well, some people might know more than you. I wouldn't be so bold to speak for Urban

Mississippi and Alabama look like world beaters. Very high level of play out there tonight.

With that said, I have no idea. Would not be particularly surprised if the O awakened and we finished 15-0; would also not be shocked by three regular season losses. Just such an inconsistent team right now.

I picked 12-1, losing to Michigan State, not getting a chance at conference championship game, and winning a bowl game.
Before today, I would have said that I could coach this team to an undefeated season, going into the Michigan State game. But if Meyer needs a defensive score to beat Northern Illinois, maybe I couldn't have done that well.
Anyway, Ohio State needs to fix whatever it is that needs to be fixed. I said that after the first three quarters against Hawaii, thinking that would be the kick in the pants they needed. If NIU game wasn't the kick, I REALLY don't see them beating Michigan State. Don't beat Michigan State, and they aren't making the conference championship game.

No predictions. I am very excited about our D. They have the talent and depth and chemistry to be really special. Playing at a very high level right now. I am equally concerned with the Offense. The inability to make adjustments "in game" is alarming. So is the turnovers. It's like we have all these toys but don't know how to use them.
One word: SIMPLIFY

On the other hand:
Bama lost
USC lost
UCLA is losing

It could be worse...

I don't know how much of the issues they can fix with Warriner calling plays for the offense from the field while also trying to coach up the O-line. Settling on one QB for the rest of the season should fix some (most?) of the execution issues when it comes to rhythm with the receivers and the play looking smoother overall. However the offense will only look as smooth as the play calling will allow, and that seems like something unlikely to be fixed this season without moving Warriner up to the booth and away from the O-line.

I picked 12-1 with a loss that takes us out of the post-season discussion (likely MSU, though a few others could conceivably do it). Unless they make a move with the offensive coordinator spot (be it coach placement or whatever), I don't know if the offense can be all it can/needs to be.

Defense is elite.

Offense, well...

I think there are two huge pieces missing from last year that are bigger problems than we hoped...

1A-- we really miss Tom Herman. And not just for his play calling. His work with the qbs is sorely missed. I don't think Tim Beck can carry his jock in fhat department. Also wonder how much Warriner's expanded responsibilities are hurting the OL.

1B-- we really miss Devin Smith. Nobody on this roster is near the deep threat he was, right now. I think that's a big part of Cardale's problems. Somebody needs.to step up, not sure if we have him, though.

Bottom line, rivht now, this offense is a shell of what it was in January. The defense is VERY good. The O is not. Not even close. Still a lot of time to work out the issues, but i have serious concerns three weeks in. We're very vulnerable.
It sort of all makes sense though doesn't it? We lose our QB coach and all the sudden the QB's look unfocused and unsure. Then our OL coach takes over the OC job and the OL looks horrible because his attention isn't 100% on them. Coincidence? No, I don't think so.

We will win a ton of games this year but only because we are so nasty on defense and we have enough talent to just roll out on the field to beat most B1G teams.

You don't think that this offense is going to find its footing this year?

The offense will get it together. A matter of when, not if imo. The funny thing is that even though B1G play starts after WMU, Osu won't face a team as good as niu until they play psu. And even then, they may be better than them. I have zero worries about wmu, @iu, or Maryland. Even if the offense is still finding it's groove. The earliest I would start to worry is psu. Iu and Maryland are just awful. At least psu has a defense.

If I had to answer right now I would say we will have our moments but for the most part we will be extremely underwhelming to what we expected. I don't expect record breaking offenses but I do expect that we can be as good as our 2012 offense, and like most of us said that year if we had a better defense we could've dominated teams. Overall, I do not expect anymore what I expected before the season which was a offense that was similar to last season (yes I know its early, so spare me).

We will have our moments I'm sure but to me something looks off. Like Joe Bauserman, Lydell Ross off. The type of off were there's a major issue and it may take a big effort to fix (in those cases personnel changes) What I think is contributing that feeling to me is our play calling has shown no imagination, big tendency to test the perimeter, have no idea how to set plays up, and have shown no clue on calling the intermediate passing game. Sure I get that I could do no better but damn all this talent and they can't figure out how to hit 300 yards of total offense?

Our freaking defense scored just as many TD's as our offense. Here's what I propose guys and I'm convinced this is the answer... (so fucking agree with me)

1. We are shooting for baby steps here. The worse thing we could do is to go into the next game trying to make up for the previous two games and press the issue. Next game we are shooting for 35 points and 400 yards of offense (stop snickering because I know you are) but finding 2-3 plays that we can start to mold as staples. Of those 2-3 plays neither of them will be a jet sweep or rub route mind you. Also having one person start and finish this game at QB (and if it gets ugly so fucking what they need the reps), and also determine who your starting ELEVEN are because as of right now with all the "or"s and technically having TWELVE starters according to the Depth chart ( 1Qb, 5 OL, 1 RB, 1TE, 1 H and 3 WR's). I mean I get it we have a entire 53 man roster of players who can run 4.4 forties and are 6 foot 205 pounds that's awesome. However we only need 11 so how about in this game put who we know is our best 11 out there which I could care less who it is outside of JT at QB who I feel is the better route. So we have 11 starters and we develop 1-2 players we have that come in off the bench to spell players ONLY when they're tired such as Samuel for Braxton and Wilson for Marshall.

2. We then head into Indiana and build off of the 35 point 400 yard game and shoot for 42 points and 450 yards of offense. In this game we continue to repetitively use our 2-3 staple plays and in this game the plan should be to have a counter punch set up to the 2-3 staples that we start to develop rythme for because just as Indiana finds a way to stop it bam we hit them with a counter. Think Zone read comes back and just as they bring a guy in to defend it we then go zone read with JT keeping it then having a throw option when he keeps.

3. Now going into mid October we have 4-5 staples and we PERFECT them. At this point we've started to build chemistry with our personnel, our play calling, and our rhythm. By Mid October we can be a dangerous dangerous team if we do this correctly.

Focus on no turnovers, find 11 starters on offense with 2 reliable back ups, sustaining drives, and finding plays we do well to run as staples. As long as our offense stops turning the ball over I'm confident we will not lose in the regular season, but if we press and continue giving up 3-5 turnovers a game we will have a uphill battle against MSU and scum.

If we press we will not get better as we will not show the patients that's going to be required to correct this. However, if we slow down and calm things down on offense we can build up steam so that by MSU we are a machine as we all thought we could be.

I still think Sparty is the only team on our schedule that can beat us, and that includes any potential West Division champ. I'm 50-50 we get into the playoffs undefeated or lose to Sparty and go to the Rose Bowl at 11-1. Nationally, nobody is really jumping out either. I still have faith that Urban will unfuck this team, but it's waning. We've actually gotten worse each game though, and the turnaround needs to be immediate and drastic.

  • Pick a QB and stick with him
  • Unfuck the O-line
  • Give Zeke the ball until the other team proves they can stop him
