Deer Attacks Sculptor Inside Home
Sculptor Alfred Tibor
A local woman ran for help Monday night after an intruder broke into her home, and then attacked her husband.
But the intruder wasn't human. It was a deer.
“I was just driving down the road. And this old lady, she just started flagging me down and said her husband was inside and somebody was on top of him," cab driver Randall Rader began to explain.
“She was talking about blood. And I saw the window broke. And I went inside and there was a deer on top of the guy. Had him pinned up against the wall.”
The man Randall Rader found against the wall was famous sculptor Alfred Tibor. The artist was unable to escape, trapped against the wall by the deer.
But Rader's arrival startled the deer. And that freed Tibor. Then Rader, Tibor and his wife fled the house. That's when Rader called for help.
"As I went inside, the deer came out towards us,” Columbus Police Sergeant Anthony Wilson said.
“And when he saw us, he ran back into the bathroom and tried to go through the bathroom mirror. Once he did that, we could tell that he was disoriented, and we made the decision to put him down,” Sgt. Wilson explained.
Police say the deer jumped through a window around 5:30 p.m. Monday. Before shooting the deer, officers tried to scare it out of the home unharmed.
Meanwhile, Tibor appeared to be in need of immediate medical help.
"His wrists were cut up real bad, and his stomach was cut up. It was scary,” Rader said.
10TV learned Monday night that Alfred Tibor remained hospitalized in stable condition. Police did not have any explanation for the attack, or say whether veterinarian would be examining the animal.
