Great show.

Spoiler alert:
the-infamous-tie.jpg

Franklin then throws a seven-yard pass play to Shuttlesworth and is injured, breaking his collar bone with 2:23 left in the game. Three plays later, Michigan kicker Mike Lantry attempted a 58-yard field goal, but it missed the left goal-post by a few inches. Ohio State took over, but their back-up quarterback, Greg Hare, threw an interception that was returned to the OSU 33 with 52 seconds left. Michigan moved the ball to the OSU 28, before settling for a field goal on 3rd and 5 with 28 seconds to go. For the second consecutive try, the field goal was missed and the game ended in a 10-10 tie.

Big 10 ADs vote Ohio State to the Rose Bowl.

the way my dad told me the story of this game had me thinking that Ohio State wasn't undefeated in non-conference play and that Michigan was clearly the better team. today was the first I recall hearing that we were actually ranked #1.

so why the fuck did everybody act like Michigan was the better team? we were ranked higher than them, with the same record as them, and scored just as many points as they did.....on the road. why the fuck were they expecting to be the ones to get the votes?

Is that all it was? Every Michigan fan they talked to for the show acted like they won that game.
it was foregone conclusion that Mich was going..tied for Conference.

First vote ever..the team that had not been to the Rose bowl had always gone. Columbus was in mourning until the vote. Thank God there were no message boards, tOSU game plan was highly criticized

The fact is that OSU and UM had six common opponents that season. We outscored those six teams 237-27. UM outscored those teams 211-39. For the season we outscored all opponents 371-43 (Rose Bowl excluded). The numbers for UM were 330-68 (I did not include a Rose Bowl here either - lol). When they had an opportunity to "prove it on the field" AT THEIR HOUSE they couldn't do it.

The ONLY argument in UMs favor was that up until that season the rule was that you don't go two years in a row. A rule that was changed in 1973.
The almost unanimous feeling - even here in CBus - was that precedent would govern and the new rule ignored. But the rule DID change specifically to allow the same team to go two years in a row. We had equal reason to be selected other than a precedent which had nothing to do with anything on the field.

And don't forget we DID win the Rose Bowl.

Wait, this was an actual thing? You couldn't go to the Rose Bowl 2 years in a row back then, even if you were the Big 10 champ both years?

Also, anyone have a link to this documentary, that isn't a torrent?
