Tiger Woods (Offical Thread)

Thump

Hating the environment since 1994
  • Earl Woods, father of Tiger Woods, dies

(AP) -- Earl Woods, who was more determined to raise a good son than a great golfer and became the role model, architect and driving force behind Tiger Woods' phenomenal career, died Wednesday morning at his home. He was 74.

"My dad was my best friend and greatest role model, and I will miss him deeply," Tiger Woods said on his Web site. "I'm overwhelmed when I think of all of the great things he accomplished in his life. He was an amazing dad, coach, mentor, soldier, husband and friend. I wouldn't be where I am today without him, and I'm honored to continue his legacy of sharing and caring."

Woods was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 1998 and was treated with radiation, but the cancer returned in 2004 and spread throughout his body. Last month, he was too frail to travel to the Masters for the first time. His son finished tied for third.

By all accounts, Earl was a great "athlete dad" and let Tiger choose his own course. He never saw his son as a meal ticket like Marinovich's old man did. He let Tiger grow up to be Tiger and concentrated on teaching him right from wrong and how to be a man. He let the golf take care of itself.

Sadly, in the long run, this will finally let Tiger be Tiger again. The distraction of his dad's health has hampered his game dramatically for a while now.

Tiger will likely take a month off from the tour and spend it with his family. As he should.

RIP Earl Woods. You were a good man,

Tiger's Wife Gives Birth to a Daughter

    By The Associated Press
Tiger has a cub. Less than 24 hours after Tiger Woods finished second at the U.S. Open on Father's Day, his wife gave birth to their first child, a daughter. He announced Monday night on his Web site that Sam Alexis Woods was born early Monday morning.
"Both Elin and Sam are doing well and resting peacefully," Woods wrote. "We want to thank our doctors and the hospital staff for all their dedicated and hard work. This is truly a special time in our lives and we look forward to introducing Sam to our family and friends over the next few weeks. We thank everyone for their well wishes and continued respect of our privacy."

Tiger Woods will play in the Presidents Cup tournament this week in Montreal.

MONTREAL -- Tiger Woods said this week that anyone who tests positive under golf's new drug policy should pay a steep price.

"Given our reputation in our sport, how honorable our sport is and always has been and will continue to be, I think that the penalty has got to be somewhat significant," Woods said in a conference call to announce the field for the World Challenge.

leave it to cold pizza, esucky to say that Tiger is the only golfer that looks like he's on the juice or being in shape to be on it. Well, he doesn't look like a linebacker and he's been the best since he turned 20. Why would he bring that up if he was on it.

Not sure how many heard about this but Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman made an inadvertant racial remark and the fallout has been as follows in this article. Unfortunatly Al Sharpton has made his way onto the scene. This was a very inappropriate comment made by Kelly and I feel that the Golf Channel took appropriate action for it. I just feel as though Al Sharpton does more harm than good when it comes to race equality. The message gets lost in his arrogance and nothing positive comes from situations he becomes involved in.

I hope Kelly sees the error in what she said and people in the public eye realize the repercussions of the words that they choose. Tiger has once again shown his class and civility much as he did after the Zoeller comments at Augusta.
