Do we like what this guy runs? Not sure I'm too excited about this but I'm no football coach.

Buckeye86 I do not choose to discuss it

Warinner is the OC, this guy (or any other hire) will be his assistant.

Beck has solid recruiting ties in Florida and Texas and he has worked with Warinner before at Kansas.

The main concern would be how well he can develop QB talent given the relative mess they're had in Nebraska lately- but that might be explained away by what he had to work with up there.

Well said - an experienced coach with ties already in Texas which I think was a big focus. The "co-OC" is always a scary and sometimes confusing title but as you said, he's not going to be a play caller but will help in the game planning. This should be a very good situation for both parties and be a pretty seamless transition IMO.

Also just noticed after a poster on the Huskers rivals site mentioned it....Beck was the WR and Passing Game Coordinator at Kansas in 2007 when Warinner was the OC, so they already have a working relationship history and clearly came highly recommended by a coach we all love.

Yeah, I don't think the best offensive mind in football could've turned Tommie Armstrong into an all-conference QB.

Re: Beck was born in Youngstown, Ohio on March 14, 1966, and graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School. Both current Nebraska head football coach, Bo Pelini, and his brother, Carl Pelini, who formerly served as Nebraska's defensive coordinator, also graduated from Cardinal Mooney.

He has an Ohio connection. And I guess you can put "former Nebraska head coach" in front of Bo Pelini.

Recruiting isn't an exact science, you know that. And I'm sure at the end of the day, Urban will have final say in who gets OFFERS as opposed to offers. QBs for the 2016 class have been well identified, and we already have our 2017 QB.

  13. With Pelini (defensive guy) as a HC and not Urban (offensive guy and quasi QB coach).

Edit: didnt see @pnuts34 's response.

It's always fun to discuss these types of hires, but I'm curious to hear from those who "aren't fans of the hire" and why that may be? Is it simply results from his time at Nebraska or something deeper than that?
