Tim Beck (HC Coastal Carolina)

Fire Luke. Fire Herman. Warinner can't recruit.

All I'm saying, man, is that I've been a member of this board for a little while now, and after seeing all the angst that Herman generated over the years - you guys have a chance to get a guy with some stones and THIS is who got picked up?!? I mean, I trust Urbs and all, but I was floored at this hire.

Caveat emptor, that's all I'm saying....

To be fair he's not being hired as the OC.
I think a bit of the Peter Principle is in play here, with a chance to drop back down a level and polish some of his skills to be a better OC the next go around.

Sometimes coaches are very good until they get too much responsibility. You see it with great coordinators who become head coaches all the time (cough Bo Pelini). Warriner and Meyer will be running the offense. Perhaps Beck will be better served without that responsibility. My thought is they hired him because 1) Warriner has worked with him before and is comfortable with him as the #2 man, and 2) He has recruiting ties in Texas.

This is Urban's show. The most important thing is and was retaining Ed Warriner.

From what most Nebraska fans have said, Beck should excel in this position. They seemed to state his role as a non-play caller should be perfect for him and he's great at creating plays, very smart guy.

Which suggest that fans are terrible at evaluating coaches. It's amazing how smart and adept Herman became when his qb had more passing ability (including a painfully raw NFL style qb who had not played ). I'd suggest that the same flaws plagued beck at Nebraska.

And this isn't a major position. If he ends up being bad, urban can hire a New qb coach. You also already have two maybe three pretty good qbs coming back so the amount of coaching needed from him in the short term is minimal.

The offense was not the problem at Nebraska. Also, Beck won't be running the show- he will be in a support role.

I'm a fan of the hiring. Most important factor is staff cohesiveness, being that Beck and Warnier have successful history is great. Next his HS resume is pretty solid for recruiting purposes, has to have contacts still... and walking in with an OSU logo on your shirt vs Nebraska, is a huge difference. Coaching in Texas, Miami area and Scottsdale... all talent rich areas. And finally what he accomplished at Nebraska with his QB's, certainly nothing terrible.
