My advice is still the same....know your stuff before you post. Especially recently, there has been an increasing amount of mindless threads/posts that have come straight from fantasyland. One thing about this board, there is a good core of football thought. If someone cannot post something intelligent, they need to read, learn, and adapt. Otherwise, be ready for the various levels of criticism or critique.
i generally agree.

still though this place should have room for newbs or those without any football background. perhaps those who this shoe fits should phrase their posts in a 'why aren't we' manner instead of a 'we should'. seek answers, don't provide them.

Exactly, but so many people don't want to know because that would refute their ranting. Ignorance is bliss after all. Once people understand the whys, they cannot complain incessantly.

Its easier to bitch than think.

Good point though, perception lies in the wording.

I don't think eliminating curse words is a reasonable solution. I'm not trying to push the civil liberties issue but it doesn't make sense if there are measures to filter what you read. It isn't the posters fault if a reader can't digest what is written.

I see what you're saying osugrad21. I'm not speaking of the small incidents that happen but rather the all out smear campaigns that unfold in some threads. The subject is completely lost and posters begin to just attack back and forth. I'd go to usenet if I wanted to read that trash. There are incidents where people are better off not posting. But a lot of it is selective exposure; some people aren't willing to even think about what others post.

True, and a very good assessment of certain threads. However, that street does run both ways. If one has zero football sense (excuse the hyperbole), it would certainly make sense to check that facts and opinions were valid thoughts before throwing them out on this board. For instance, "Why don't we fake more punts" or "We need to blitz more" are ambiguous statements without much thought in them. The blitzing issue is a great point to argue, however why not have some situational thought in that post also? "Why doesn't Snyder blitz more on 3rd and intermediate?" is the exact same question with more direct thought process involved. Guys like 3yds are great with taking it even a step further and providing the data for such a post. Down, distance, result are all valuable tools to understand the issue further.

I will admit I am guilty of a lack of patience lately. However, some people just want to vent their frustrations without thinking through the issue. That is fine with me, but those posters shouldn't make bold proclamations without expecting some type of rebuttal. The degrees of that rebuttal vary from poster to poster, but sometimes you reap what you sow. The poster who referred to a wide group as "losers" should expect some measure of venom in response.

There is always a better way to present one's thoughts. It all boils down to think before you post in my book.

I agree. People need to think before they post. I just don't agree with people not thinking before they reply. Instead of telling someone "hey dipshit, our zone defense has too many holes as it is," others would actually read and take some validity in "I agree that we need to put more pressure on quarterbacks, but we aren't getting the coverage to apply it."

I guess discretion is the better part of valor. There are a lot of intelligent people on these forums that really know football. Sometimes its unfortunate people use their knowledge to rip others down rather than educate.

Wonderful but let's not hijack this thread.

Apologies-

Back to your regularly scheduled program... which I believe involves knowing the rules for each forum and using your cranium before you tap on the thing in front of you with the letters.
