Van Jefferson (WR Los Angeles Rams)

Agreed on all points, but I'm more referring to the numbers game. We've brought in a TON of talented receivers, but other than Noah brown we don't really have a taller receiver in the past few classes.

True, and tbh, Brown might end up at TE. But we may not need tall WRs as much in this offense. An offense predicated on mismatches, athletic TEs that Meyer is targeting can be our "tall WRs". Just a thought, as I don't remember many tall WRs while Meyer was at UF either.

Odd recruitment to say the least. I liked Ofodile and Jefferson a lot. I really like Cager as well and he would be a nice consolation prize. Then it's all in on Kirk the rest of the way.

The Hurry Up
VAN STILL THE MAN?
One of the bigger "surprises" of the summer, recruiting-wise, was Tennessee wide receiver Van Jefferson committing to Georgia over Ohio State and Tennessee. The Buckeyes, long Jefferson's "favorite team" had been close to pledging Scarlet and Gray more than once during his recruitment, but decided to keep things open and eventually felt like the opportunity in Athens was going to be the best fit.

While there's not much reason to get excited yet, I've heard through the grapevine that the Buckeyes haven't given up this chase just yet and Jefferson isn't shutting the door completely. Does that mean he's "back in play?" No, but he's listening and paying attention.

"Jefferson could be back in play, at least a little bit," a source told 11W. "There's some talk that seeing the way the Ohio State offense is evolving has piqued some interest. Don't underestimate the impact that JT Barrett's style and play could have on some wide receiver recruits."

Given that Van's father expressed concern about how NFL-ready the tOSU offense would get his son, the productivity of the Buckeye passing attack with JT Barrett under center has to have him rethinking that worry ... especially given the shaky performances so far of Georgia's new QB.

I don't see him in this class though. Assuming Cager is eventually in. Either he would need to flip before Cager commits, or we take 3 SE type WR's in 1 class. And maybe we do that, but I don't see it.

I know the needs are DT first and foremost and I know the staff seems intent on landing another DB but man I would love to land this dude if it's possible. "A QB is a function of the talent around him" -Urbz

That's a very true statement. And Michael Thomas, Corey smith, Devin Smith, dontre Wilson, jalin Marshall, terry mclaurin, parris Campbell, noah brown, etc can attest to that. And Alex Stump will agree with that too. I wish Van the best of luck, but the Buckeyes have more important needs.

I'm of the opinion you take the best players possible within reason given any glaring depth chart issues. If we have 2 spots left and we happened to land, say Beckner for the DL I would rather take Van Jefferson as my last spot than a reach for a secondary player. IMO the needs in the secondary aren't enormous but obviously the staff knows best. I know that landing either one of these guys is a long shot of course.
