Tom Herman (Head Coach FAU Owls)

Whoever he chooses to coach for is going to have to pony up 4 years of his Houston contract, pay off the current coach and then give him an Urban level salary. So LSU, Texas, Okie - I don't know if the Domers can cough up that much. Pretty Certain USC can't and Baylor? Fuhgidabout it.

His $2.5M buyout is pretty much peanuts to any of those programs if they really want Herman.

Cavalcade Of Whimsy: Texas, What Has Tom Herman REALLY Done?

Really? I have to be the adult in the room? Fine, I’ll do the dirty work.

Blind taste test of two coaches – as opposed to a blind coach taste test, which I’m sure is a subcategory of some other site you’d rather be viewing right now.

Coach A

– Won 14 of his last 15 games with a powerhouse of a team that he spent four years building up himself...

Coach B

– Won 18 of his first 19 games as a head coach with, mostly, someone else’s players...

...Herman’s not there yet after just 19 games...

...What does a true superpower do? It gets a proven winner at the highest of levels, like Michigan did with Harbaugh, and Ohio State did with Meyer, and Alabama did with Saban, and Louisville did – somewhat – with Bobby Petrino, and Washington did with Chris Petersen.

You’re Texas. Act accordingly.

I'll be pretty surprised if he doesn't end up at LSU. He gets a premier job that relies heavily on Texas, where he has serious recruiting ties. Just makes too much sense.

except that you are in the SEC with Saban and Bama with a program that has only been "premier" since Saban built it up in the mid '00s and Lester maintained it.

If I had a choice between the two as Hermann apparently does, I think Texas is the better long term option.

well, based on the evidence at hand, Coach A will never get four years of "building up himself" at Texas.

Yep. Let's pump the brakes for somebody who is winning with someone else's players. Herman should try to be more like Harbaugh.

Indeed.

Come to think of it Urban won at what, 4 different stops with other guys players? We might need to slow down on the hype for him as well.
