Tom Herman (Head Coach FAU Owls)

His problem was more with his playcalling, and being able to relate to his QB's. He had some decent talent to work with. (not up to tOSU's level thought)
No offense, but I'll trust UFM's instincts on this for now.

(I also remember what happened when a cannot miss offensive genius with an outsize ego dropped into South Bend - as HC - then into Gainesville - as OC. Sometimes the numbers don't tell you the whole story.)

Not going to lie to you guys, as an ISU fan, I am shocked that tOSU made this hire. Herman was on the hotseat at ISU up until the Okie State game. His offenses have been at the bottom of the Big 12. Pretty baffled by this. If you go to our boards, you won't find many that are sad to see him go.

Weren't these the same sentiments from your fanbase when Chizik left?

I'd forgtten that example - here is the local media's take on Chizik as he exited Iowa State.
Not quoting any of it - title alone speaks volumes to underscore your point.

I suspect that Meyer will be looking for the type of turn-around and improvement Herman created in the '08 Rice squad's output. Taking them from middling 51st in nation to 10th best offensive output in the following year.

Then he went to Iowa State.

Hell, I would have settled for a middling 51st in the nation for much of the last decade

I also like hiring a young agressive coach who is looking for more than just being a OC..if Herman leaves in two years for a HC job I'll be happy for him because tOSU probably won a NC. Sometimes having the same staff year after year leads to complacency..bringing young coaches with their own ideas keeps things fresh..which I think is the Urban Model for a staff..

I doubt many of your fans would have a reason to watch an Ohio State game, but we had a passing offense at the actual bottom of D1A. As far as playcalling, our fans and opposing coaches could quite accurately predict our play calls based on down, distance, field position and formation. This was all with an offense that in theory had significantly more talent than probably 10 of the defenses they faced this year.

Your guy Herman will do just fine in Columbus.

Edit: How is he as a recruiter?
