High School Top All Time Ohio HS Football Programs(Win %)

Haha Really

Wow, it's amazing how the people who didn't attend CAPE, couldn't go, but will try to downgrade the program itself. As you can see, yes I GRADUATED 5th in my class at CAPE in 1990 and is VERY PROUD of my school, the relationships/friendships that I still maintain to this day with fellow classmates and teachers. See while you all were taking regular math, students like myself was taking Calculus and Trigonometry which NO HIGH SCHOOL even attempts to teach, not even your precious Walnut Hills. Yes, we took some off the wall SPP classes but in hind sight those classes taught us to multi-task, balance, eye and hand coordination, etc, that would be why NO ONE COULD TOUCH US IN ANY SPORT, not just football. It really irritates me to think that some folks really feel that CAPE just spit out a bunch of ingrate lower class homosapiens, but I am definitely here to tell you THAT IS BY FAR THE TRUTH. Several of my classmates own their own companies, I myself, have been in the I.T. field for 15 years. Gym all day......LOL boy do I wish that was the case, but definitely by far from the truth. We were not societies rejects but in fact their superior ones. Please DON'T confuse the truth with your idiotic opinions or hearsay.

Now, for the teacher that went through hell, who was she cuz she may not have known what the hell she was doing and didn't know how to get respect from the students or at home from her own dang kids. See there were teachers and staff, plenty of them, that got massive amounts of respects, not only did they earn but we gave it to them freely as they did us. Jim Engel, Paul Davis, Lavonne Washington, Kathy Gerth, Steve Sheehan, Mike Shebinski, just to name a few.

Just passing students?? Did they? Perhaps but no different than what teachers do at Moeller, St. X, LaSalle, so please don't pinpoint and they may even have done it for you, since some of the comments on here are so idiotically stupid, yes I said that and meant it!!

Also, get your facts right, we were shut down ONLY for the purpose of allowing the other neighborhood schools to shine. CAPE was doing too much, educational AND sports wise. See perhaps the school was initially created for the purpose of just sending some "lazy" kids, but the end result was phenominal and they couldn't handle it. What you don't realize is our GPA was graded on a higher scale than most, even Walnut Hills. While other schools only needed 19-22 credits to graduate we needed 24, so at any time we could have transferred as Juniors to other school and been completed with school. So much more was expected from us - to whom much is given must is expected....please believe and WE ALWAYS DELIVERED.

So next time you want to come and play bash and smash about CAPE, go up againt a REAL CRUSADER, then you will learn to shut up, sit down and know your role. Everybody wasn't meant to attend CAPE and that's why they MAD. Glad people still talk about CAPE, keep us in mind and on your tongue, that way WE WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

article to help you understand who we really are

Jock Tech it is not. Some parents choose it because it is highly disciplined and small (525 high school students, 1,600 overall). Others like the academics: CAPE stresses basics and has tougher graduation requirements than most other Cincinnati public schools. Its students must pass one more course per quarter than those in other Cincinnati schools to remain eligible for interscholastic sports and they must endure a school day that is an hour longer.
CAPE students spend an average of three times as many hours in phys-ed classes as other Cincinnati public school kids. In the lower grades they concentrate on motor skills; later they receive training in dozens of sports and outdoor activities?from basketball to rappeling?and study physiology and nutrition as they apply to various endeavors. At a time when youth fitness is a national disgrace?40% of boys and 70% of girls cannot do more than one pull-up?CAPE asks its students to shape up. "Here we take seriously the notion of a sound mind in a sound body," says principal John Maher. "Our motto is nulli secundo?second to none."

FWIW, this ending doesn't really help your case in defending CAPE from the comments already made.

No, personally I haven't gone anywhere....I was just informed of this post 2 hours ago and immediately created an account and commented. Actually the last comment is very appropriate, see just the fact that this post started 4 years ago and CAPE has been closed well over 8 years and people are still talking about it, whethers its negative or positive, proofs my point exactly. We are in the mouths of folks and that alone keeps us alive.

Don't get me wrong. I wasn't diminishing the impact that CAPE has had nor am I commenting as to whether that is good or bad.

My sole reason for bringing up your specific comment was, because of the antagonistic/bullish way in which you attempted to present your point. IF CAPE was more than simply an athletic facility; then you wouldn't have flaunted a physical domineering POV.

In addition, I should note that I've only ever met one person who attended CAPE. When I was in highschool in Marietta, a family moved to the area. The older brother of a kid in my grade had attended CAPE. He was built like tank and quite intelligent. Thus, I never had a negative view.

Thankfully I am not an alumnus of that bastion of academics known as CAPE, because if I were, this paragraph from someone ranked 5th in a graduating class would have me so damn embarrassed, on so many levels that I would deny attending the school.

That is by far the truth.

Incidentally, I took Trig as a High School Junior (1988) Just sayin.

Crusader for Life

I feel compelled to chime in on this conversation as well. I read this thread and laugh at the misinformation that can be spread via the internet and word of mouth. To dispell the myths about my alma mater, I have this information to pass on: CAPE was the Cincinnati Academy of Physical Education. We graduated our first high school class in 1984, and the last in 1994. We were neither a school for jocks, nor for inner-city underachievers. At its height, CAPE had students in grades K-12 attending 2 separate campuses within a mile of each other. Hence, some students did attend more than the typical 4 years of other high schools. The program began at the old Roll Hill Elementary building with 3 grades initially, I believe grades 4, 5 and 6. Each year, they added a higher grade so that the older students could remain in the program. When they outgrew Roll Hill, they moved to the old Taylor High School building on Winton Ridge Lane in Winton Terrace. We had all of the regular academic classes, and yes we even had college prep (currently AA or AP). In addition, we had 2 physical education classes per day. I say physical education, and not gym, to stress the fact that we were actually educated in these classes. We did have 'regular' gym classes that you would find in any other school, but we also had to learn the history of the sports we were playing/studying; where it was invented, when, why, by whom, what skills helped you advance in the sport, etc. We also had 'gym' classes such as sports physiology, kinesiology, and nutrition. We learned the muscles, tendons, ligaments, systems and functions of the human body. We learned the strengths and limitations of the body. We learned archery and riflery, unicycling and juggling, outdoor education and survival skills. CAPE was founded on the desire for a well-rounded student, academically and physically. In the earlier years, CAPE was a fantastic school. We wore a school uniform, which was a pair of track pants or shorts, gym shoes and a t-shirt or sweatshirt. We had special 'dress up' days on occasional Fridays, where we could wear street clothes. We had a longer school day than the other schools in the city, and I know I didnt make it home until dinner time every night. I had enough high school credits to graduate after my 11th grade year. Thankfully, they talked me into staying for my senior year. I graduated valedictorian of my class in 1986. A few years after that I stopped by the school and was saddened to learn that the kids no longer had uniforms. They wore street clothes and changed into their gym clothes twice a day. I have spoken to numerous people that attended CAPE after Mr. Maher left, and they cannot speak highly enough of his replacement (I regret to say I do not recall her name). I do not know for certain why the city chose to close down the program. What I do know is that I have lifelong friends from CAPE, both students, teachers and administrators. Not all of them have perfect english or math skills, they are not all criminals; many have gone on to wonderful careers in teaching, military, private sector, public service, started their own companies. Some have college degrees, MBA's, PHD's. I have been a fitness instructor for 27 years now, and I am a firefighter/paramedic by trade. I attended college for engineering. My path and goals in my life have been based on the foundation I was given at CAPE. I am not here to be aggressive or shout about our prowess in any given sport. I just wanted to quash the implication that our school was somehow a place that pushed jocks through the system. Lord knows I am not a jock by any standard definition. Thank you for your time, and I hope I have helped to educate someone about our school, if even just a bit.

I came across this discussion and felt compelled to respond to this.

While I have absolutely no problems with your love for your alma mater, please actually know what you're talking about when you bring MY school into the mix. I am a Walnut Hills graduate (from the 90s), and at Walnut I took Trig (AA) as a Sophomore, and Calculus (AP) as a Junior. My sister is also a Walnut alum (from the 80s) and she also took both Trig & Calculus at Walnut.

So I don't know what Walnut Hills you're referring to that doesn't offer those courses, but it most certainly is NOT the one located at 3250 Victory Parkway.
