The thing to keep in mind with getting viruses is that the only way to get them is through the files you download. Viruses can't invade your computer just by leaving bittorrent or Azureus on. The virus had to have been in something you downloaded. Seeing as we know where all the files are coming from (BP members), the chances of one of us putting a virus within a video file are slim to none. Malicious torrents don't exist very long because trackers (as the name suggests) can track which users post up which files. If they are malicious then the files will be removed from the tracker and that user will be banned.

As far as questions of legality - this area is a quagmire of differing opinions that I'm just not willing to get into at the moment. Check out www.accvideos.com and the disclaimer they have. The main thing to keep in mind is this: BP is not hosting these files anywhere on the server. They don't physically exist on any server for that matter (not even the tracker). The files are being transmitted only from user to user. With that being said, I would think that Clarity and/or Mili would probably want links for only game videos to be put up on this forum. Live music and other legit download links should probably be put elsewhere.

I've got a couple 24/7 computers (2 of them), and I want these games - BAD.

Tell me what to do, and it's done. Send me a PM or just put it on the forums. I want this done really bad and I'm willing to help.

EDIT: Here is a good page for any questions you have about Bittorrent: http://www.bittorrent.com/guide.html

And also, we can ask a couple trackers that are already out there to help us... It says on this page that it requires very little load, and many people are willing to help.

EDIT #2: Would it be elitist to ask that this be a BP thing only?

I have a 24/7 machine and I would be more than happy to help out. Also my job is Network Administration too, if anyone needs help just ask. This is a really great idea and I'd be MORE than happy to help and get this project off the ground.

I wasn't hoping to have live music trading attached to the full games and video clips. I think if there were a music forum though, we could have those in a separate place, and still use the same tracker - would that be correct?

I sent something to Clarity about what I was talking about a week or two ago. Of course, he has other things going on, so maybe the usefulness of a music forum for bittorrent purposes is not among his concerns at the moment.

There isn't a reason to use Azureus specifically. I'd prefer people who haven't used torrents before to try it, cause I think it's easy to set up and use. If you're happy with BitTorrent or BitTornado or whatever else is out there, then by all means use it.

But man, what a way to start out the week. Smith gets cleared, and Mili's dvd's come in the mail! Time to rip these to divx. I found a potential tracker with the help of timBUCK2. I'll upload a test file (DA-Bucks Michigan Highlight reel) and see if that works. If people can get it then I'll start ripping these DVD's to divx at full steam.

EDIT: CHECK OUT THE FIRST POST. I put up a test file on the tracker (www.thepiratebay.com for anyone interested) and I am currently seeding the file.

It's working for me.

Bring on the full games! I plugged in my school computer into our new DSL so I should have a pretty reliable platform that I can leave on for extended periods of time. The family computer is pretty bug ridden and prone to crashing but mine is much better. Like I said, bring on the games!
