Game Thread Tostitos Fiesta Bowl: Ohio State 34, Notre Dame 20 (final)

"This weekend the Fiesta Bowl will make it official by inviting Notre Dame to come play at Sun Devil Stadium in a BCS Bowl game on Jan. 2. Just minutes after that announcement, Fiesta Bowl officials will follow the Orange Bowl's choice of Penn State by selecting Ohio State as the Fighting Irish's opponent. Left off the BCS schedule will be a 10-1 Oregon team whose only loss was to top-ranked and undefeated USC."

I beleive it will be OSU vs ND Fiesta for sure. In my local paper (Phoenix, AZ), I read that the Ohio State Marching Band will be in attendance to this years Fiesta Bowl.

I think you might have either read that wrong or the newspaper is speculating. We could end up at the fiesta bowl but at this point I haven't heard anyrhing coming from the OSUMB.

We all know that it's up to Notre Dame who they play.

No, actually I don' think it is.

It's the BCS that will determine it. They are a Cartel and they will decide. However, the networks (ABC/ESPN) and bowls have $$ at their disposal that can influence the decision. PSU and ND, from the network perspective, would draw more ratings on seperate nights. A game featuring both would be great but the research indicates more viewers by splitting those teams. Secondly, there is a precipitous drop-off of travel strength from ND, PSU and tOSU to VT. Thirdly, the bowls are going to take PSU and ND first. And finally, NBC is NOT involved.

tOSU v ND in the Fiesta. If that is not the pick, then sell your PepsiCo stock because they are going to take a one time cash payment hit this quarter.

Ya, i recently searched their site after reading that in the paper and saw nothing. I'm not sure if it was a misprint or what and im pissed cuz i threw that paper out yesterday. Anyway, pretty much all I have heard on ESPN and from most of the papers is that Penn State will play the Orange and Ohio State will play the Fiesta, and ND will for sure be in the Fiesta. Now we just have to watch this weekend to see if UCLA can pull out a win, then that would probably change a lot (or if Texas were to lose).

I say that for the fact that they and the Pac-10 will pressure the Fiesta Bowl officials to pick Oregon over OSU. That is why I said that.

The Orange picks BEFORE the Fiesta's second pick. The second Fiesta pick, whether it's Oregon, tOSU, Auburn, or Middle Tennessee State cannot affect the Orange Bowl's pick. If Oregon, by some miracle, lobbies their way into the Fiesta, then we are in the Capital One.

But this is purely an academic discussion at this point.

Well, it is now official. Bob "scUMer" Griese just anointed Oregon as ND's opponent in the Fiesta during Tex vs Col.............mark it down...he said that Oregon's whining will win out a bid....he sounded like he was just throwing a monkeywrench into the telecast for the Hell of it.

Bastard:biggrin:

Bring on ND...the Fiesta Bowl will NEVER pass up a ND/OSU game, especially since the Criminoles won today...I don't care if OSU has been there 9 out of the last 10...it's a money-making opportunity of a lifetime in a non-title game...and I don't give a rhino's crap what the assclown ABC or ESPN people think...money talks, and Oregon marches to the Holiday Bowl.
