Game Thread tOSU at Cal Bears, Sep 14, 7 ET, Fox

I said the same thing last night to my brother. You can't argue with the plan. It worked. The players just couldn't hang on to the ball.
I was all for
One thing we are forgettinv is we dropped three ints and had one called back due an offsides. If you put 4 more picks which 3 of t hem lead to cal touchdowns later in the game this game is not so bad of a defensive game. Catch the ball defense and tackle. We do those thi gs last night and our defense looks great
We don' need a boom or bust D..tackle knock the balldown don't over pursue. get off the field..Our O can do the rest

Offensively? Absolutely it is. Defensively this team is going to struggle all year. Cal ran stuff that we're going to see against Northwestern/Purdue/Illnois/scUM and maybe Indiana. I don't even want to think of what Wisconsin is going to run for on this defense as things stand right now either.

Until our defense can learn to stop the short yardage stuff over the middle and in the flat, they're going to get picked on. The good thing is that going deep on Ohio State won't happen often with a senior safety ready to make big plays.

The Ohio State run defense is solid, the deep passing defense is solid. Its the small stuff they have to learn to contain. Easily correctable in practice IMO.

PS. Coming into the game, Goff (Cal) was the #1 QB in the nation in terms of passing yards. Take that for what its worth.

Good work by Cal AD picking the OSU game to organize a blue/gold alternating "stripe out" of memorial stadium.

Still worry about what happens when Ohio State faces an opponent not willing to spot them 21 points to start the game.

Looks like they are simply overwhelming these teams in the 1st quarter and then regressing the remaining 3 quarters.

that was a crap article and the author is in for a rude awakening as all brick and mortar universities get right sized, but what is wrong with sonny dykes? seems to be a good coach to build a program around. he may leave for a better opportunity, but right now he is all Cal could hope for in a coach.

You said it yourself goff was the leading qb in the nation and we should have picked him off 4-5 times. I too just want the defense to make the routine play but the passed we dropped are routine. Corey brown somehow dropped a pick that needs to be caught. Same for robeys pick six and bryants dropped punt I mean int... those plays get our defense off t he field

I don't understand why we continue to go into a tizzy every time a journalist writes something negative about our team. This has been going on since 2002-2003, when we made them all mad by not sticking to the script, winning the NC instead of losing to the Bestest Team Ever Miami Hurricanes by 4 touchdowns. They hated us for playing strong defense and boring but mistake free offense, and not being flashy like the Miamis and USCs of the world. The irony, of course, is that Alabama and LSU have both won MNCs since following the same blueprint of the 2002 Buckeyes, but have been glorified.

I don't begrudge these Cal nerds their griping. At the end of the day, they are still Cal.

What I do lament, is that we are not as dominant on defense, even though our offense now consists of more than Dave.

Could be that the 1st quarter are the parts of the offense that they are executing well and that once they get a lead Meyer and Herman like to spend some time on the parts that are they are not executing as well.

California columnist has been gripping about OSU since 1967. For example, Jim Murray come to mind.

When you need clicks or page views, just insult OSU. It's every writer/talk show hosts go to move. If you suck, they don't hate you, so it's a compliment.

Yep. I like how The Ohio State University is all about the foosball, Cal is all about the education, and Sonny needs to go out and spend money on a top shelf D coordinator.

And then there is this

The horrifying thing for Cal is this: If they want to emulate another program on the field, they should try to match what hated Stanford has achieved. Football and academic excellence, happily joined.

Of course, Stanford fans would do well to emulate their counterparts in Berkeley, where students and alumni actually go to games and pack the stadium.

This guy is an idiot.
