tOSU at Illinois, November 28th, Cancelled

So, if I understand the numbers from this press conference, Ohio State has at least 13 people within the program that are positive (there are 170 people in the program, and 7.5% threshold would put that number at 12.75 - Doc said Ohio State crossed this threshold yesterday). Of those at least 13, 6 or fewer are players (6% positivity rate of 105 players is 6.3 - Doc said Ohio State had not crossed this threshold)

Gene also said Ohio State could have played today, but that it would have been irresponsible to do so under the circumstances.
It looks like I was right on the first part, but not the second. I guess the second threshold, which OSU remains under, is a 5% positivity rate on all tests administered.

I think not many people understood this until it was explained today, and probably not until (I think it was Lesmerises) someone asked again in the presser

Nah, had to limit the spread. They hit the red, season over.

Damned if we do, damned if we don't imo. On one hand, we might have eliminated ourselves from the B1G championship game and won't have enough games. On the other hand, I think everyone in here would rather play the next two games instead of Illinois if we felt that was a likely scenario if we played the Illinois game and the test rates went up. I have been someone who has been very critical of Gene in the past but I'm not going to be here. Gene has been doing everything in his power to still have a season and get as many games as possible. Cancelling the game was a tough decision that I'm sure Gene didn't like but with the B1G rules on Rona, we're placed in a very difficult position.

Not playing this week may very well mean the end of the season, but that may have been coming anyways under the circumstances. I'm moving forward under the assumption that we aren't playing another game and will be pleasantly surprised if something else happens.

Exactly, “concerning positivity rate.” If that rate hits red, the season is over. Period. This was their only shot. Can’t put kids on a plane where some may still be “incubating”. Can’t do it.
The problem is playing this week was a decision within our control. The next two weeks we have to sit and pray MSU and scum don't get infected and I'm convinced Harbaugh is looking for anyway out of playing that game.

I don't believe this for a second. A win vs. OSU, as crazy as that statement sounds just saying it, may be the only way he saves his job. He is twisted in the head. He thinks he wants that chance but we all know what the outcome will be if played.

Ditto 100% what you said. As bad as ttun is this year, Hairball is going to want one last shot at a win in The Game before he's out. We should blow them out of the water but you never know in a rivalry game, especially in a weird year like this one.

The Big can't change their rules now without inciting a conference revolt against the leadership.

Nonsense. Most of the schools in the B1G didn’t even want to play. They couldn’t care less. The ones who might care are not in the race anyway.

This would be a simple, “we’re going to let our best team represent the conference” type decision and anyone who did bitch was just trying to get by on a technicality.
