Game Thread tOSU at Purdue, Nov 2, Noon, BTN

Just sayin': Strange things (good and bad) have happened when we played Purdue...here are a few examples

1. 2002...Holy Buckeye!!!

2. 2012...Kenny G's miracle comeback win

3. 1968...#1 Purdue beaten by Ohio State 13-0

4. 2009 & 2011...Purdue upsets Ohio State at West Lafayette

5. 1984...Purdue beats #4 Ohio State 28-23, driving for a potential winning score in the final minute on the Purdue 28, with no time outs left Mike Tomczak throws the ball out of bounds to stop the clock (on 4th down)

No doubt, especially in West Lafayette. Didn't that 2011 game have a missed extra point that would have won the game in regulation too. I missed that game due to being out of the country otherwise it might have stuck in my mind a little better.

That wouldn't help a one loss SEC from bumping us

not to split hairs, but my initial comment was in regards to any 1 loss team passing an Undefeated Buckeye team. As a joke (sort of) I mentioned that a 2 loss SEC team could conceivably be ranked higher than an undefeated Buckeye team.

Stanford has 1 loss and is ranked 5th. If they knock Oregon off next week, I fully expect ESPiN to insist they should be ranked higher than us.

Yep......

Marve scores in OT, Purdue beats Ohio State 26-23
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) -- Robert Marve's 1-yard touchdown on a quarterback sneak in overtime gave Purdue a 26-23 win over Ohio State on Saturday.
Ohio State (6-4, 3-3 Big Ten) took the ball first in overtime, and Drew Basil's 33-yard field goal gave the Buckeyes a 23-20 lead.
Marve completed a 14-yard pass to Gary Bush on third-and-12 from the 15, then scored the game-winner on the next play.
Ohio State drove down the field trailing 20-14 in the final minutes. On a fourth-and-3 from the Purdue 13, Braxton Miller scrambled and found Jordan Hall behind the secondary for a touchdown to tie the game, but Purdue's Bruce Gaston blocked Basil's extra point try.

If the Buckeyes go undefeated, the only way they're left out is if those currently above them stay undefeated. A one-loss team, no matter the conference, is not going to jump them.

That being said, Purdue will be lucky to stay within 50. I'll say 70-7.

Not sure how I can agree with both of these...I would love a 42-7 halftime score and all knees after the half just to rub it in...but yes, realistically we should have a ready supply of plungers available for the next few weeks if they want to stay in the title discussion.
I'm guessing that winning these last games with style points may sway voters that the Buckeyes are peaking.

I know what you mean here but in point of fact a 1 loss team can't pass OSU in the BCS.

I haven't done the BCS math in several years but from what I remember the 1 loss essentially makes it mathematically impossible.

The issue is one loss for other teams will kill their computer scores and conversely raise Ohio State's computer scores, while also getting a bump down/up as the case may be in the human polls.

OSU fans need to keep cheering for teams like Buffalo, SDSU and all of the Big Ten teams they've beaten so far (minus whoever is playing Sparty) to keep on winning for the computer scores to solidify.
