Game Thread tOSU at Purdue, Nov 2, Noon, BTN

Hate the big drum, hate the golden girl, especially hate the toot-toot. Ok, maybe not hate, but strongly dislike. OK, maybe not strongly dislike, but find somewhat annoying.

Urban knows his team cannot struggle (in other words, win big) to keep the 1 loss teams (and 2 loss SEC teams) from passing them in the ESPiN polls.

I can see this one getting ugly early. I wouldn't be surprised if the halftime score is something along the lines of 35-0 or 42-0. I'll take a final score of 56-7.

(Incidentally, the pedsters will use this as further fax and evidents in their argument that Urban ran the score up on them, since he stopped at 56 against Stinky Pete.)
I'm not bashing you or anything....I'm just replying to your post bc it's just the latest one I found.

RE: The Penn State Beatdown - That wasn't Urban Meyer or Ohio State trying to impress voters. That's just how much better we are than they are, and we finally put a whole game together without stupid mistakes or letting off the gas too soon.
RE: Blowing out shit teams the rest of the way - I'd like to think that our coach has tried equally as hard to beat every team on the schedule. Are we saying now that Urban just now realized that we need to win by 60 each week to move up in the BCS? Or that we weren't good enough to beat Buffalo or SDSU 70-0?

I don't buy this line of thinking that all of a sudden we are to expect epic beatdowns against the shit of the B1G because we need style points. We scored 9 TDs against Penn State because Penn State isn't very good and we are. That's it. We should score a ton of points against Purdue, too. But if something happens like against Iowa or NW where we kind of play down.....what does that mean? That we didn't think we needed the style points or that we aren't good enough to score them?

Regarding the "boiler up! toot! toot!" chant: it's so stupid and unintimidating it is hard for me not to find it humorous. Hell, I've even joined in at times- have you tried it with the up and down hand motions? It's sorta fun when you've been drinking.

understood, and I didn't take it as bashing at all.

Not saying Urban made a conscious decision to score 2 more TD's when he already had 49 points, just to impress the pollsters, but you can't argue with the results. I believe this was the first week tOSU didn't lose ground on the top three in the polls and it came on the heels of the 63-14 beatdown. Probably not a coincidence.....

As for the individual game results, a lot depends on gameplan and execution. Northwestern and Iowa both had very good game plans to attack us on offense and more importantly, they executed those gameplans very well - at least for a half or so. As a result, they were both able to move the ball and score some points on us - and kept our offense on the sideline. If we played them again tomorrow, they may not fair so well. PedSU did not execute very well at all and as a result they were beaten very badly.

A lot also has to do with where you are in terms of development as the season progresses. We are a lot better team now than we were in weeks #1 and #2. If were to play SDSU or Buffalo right now, the score very well might be 70-0. That's not to say SDSU and Buffalo haven't also improved, but we have made some huge strides on offense and defense since then that cannot be denied.

Style points isn't the right term for it, imo..... To justify being ranked among the best in the country, tOSU needs to beat lesser opponents in a manner that leaves no doubt who the dominant team was. We did not beat Northwestern or Iowa in these manners (even though the final score against each was 10 points).

Bottom line, if the Bucks win each of the games in front of them, worst case - they're in the Rose Bowl. Best case, they're in the National Championship game. No margin of victory is going to allow them to leap over Florida St., Oregon or Alabama, if two of those three remain undefeated.

We did lose ground, though. We have fewer points in the Coaches Poll than we did last week.

Meh....the Coaches Poll means nothing until the very last week as most weeks before it's a GA doing the voting and the last week is the only time the coach actually does it himself and you start to see alliances form. Although, not sure that helps us but either way my point being I wouldnt' worry about losing points this week.

If Buffalo keeps winning, SDSU keeps winning, those are two things that will help us in the computer polls.....that, combined with a hopeful 11-1 MSU in the B1G Championship is all we can hope for. I have a feeling Oregon may drop one, ditto for FSU or Bama....in the end, these things usually work themselves out.

We went up in the BCS....which is ultimately what matters. But the idea that voters need to be impressed by 63-14 ass kickings doesn't really fly, since not only were they not impressed, they apparently took offense

Just sayin': Strange things (good and bad) have happened when we played Purdue...here are a few examples

1. 2002...Holy Buckeye!!!

2. 2012...Kenny G's miracle comeback win

3. 1968...#1 Purdue beaten by Ohio State 13-0

4. 2009 & 2011...Purdue upsets Ohio State at West Lafayette

5. 1984...Purdue beats #4 Ohio State 28-23, driving for a potential winning score in the final minute on the Purdue 28, with no time outs left Mike Tomczak throws the ball out of bounds to stop the clock (on 4th down)

No doubt, especially in West Lafayette. Didn't that 2011 game have a missed extra point that would have won the game in regulation too. I missed that game due to being out of the country otherwise it might have stuck in my mind a little better.

Yep......

Marve scores in OT, Purdue beats Ohio State 26-23
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) -- Robert Marve's 1-yard touchdown on a quarterback sneak in overtime gave Purdue a 26-23 win over Ohio State on Saturday.
Ohio State (6-4, 3-3 Big Ten) took the ball first in overtime, and Drew Basil's 33-yard field goal gave the Buckeyes a 23-20 lead.
Marve completed a 14-yard pass to Gary Bush on third-and-12 from the 15, then scored the game-winner on the next play.
Ohio State drove down the field trailing 20-14 in the final minutes. On a fourth-and-3 from the Purdue 13, Braxton Miller scrambled and found Jordan Hall behind the secondary for a touchdown to tie the game, but Purdue's Bruce Gaston blocked Basil's extra point try.

Purdue misses potential game winning kicks too (in 2003):

Ohio State narrowly defeats Boilermakers

The snap was good. The hold was good. Ohio State's luck was really good.
The fourth-ranked Buckeyes pulled another magical escape in a tight spot Saturday, beating Purdue (No. 10 ESPN/USA Today, No. 11 AP) 16-13 in overtime when
Ben Jones missed a 36-yard field goal on the final play.

"It felt good off my foot," Jones said. "Then I looked up ..."
Asked what went wrong, Purdue coach Joe Tiller stared straight ahead and said, "There was nothing. Nothing. We missed it."
Mike Nugent kicked a 36-yard field goal of his own in overtime, which ended up giving the Buckeyes their third win of the season without scoring an offensive touchdown.
The Boilermakers almost blocked Nugent's kick.
"Yeah, the last field goal was tipped," holder B.J. Sander said. "I think it was No. 59 (linebacker Stanford Keglar). He got a piece of it. But Nuge is a great kicker and he put it through."
Nugent could have won the game on the last play of regulation, but Purdue's Bobby Iwuchukwu leaped high to block a 41-yard try.

Purdue always played us tough with Tiller/Hope, but I think this year will be an exception. This team is awful and we should hang 70 on them. It will be nice to have a 10 am game though (mountain time), maybe I can stay sober until the 3rd quarter this way.

Anyone who has been to Ross-Ade have any helpful parking tips? I have checked online and was hoping for anything else that might be helpful.

Park wherever you can on campus. Don't even bother looking it up - you'll know when you've reached the campus and you can turn down pretty much any road at that point and find a garage.

The biggest problem isn't finding a garage, it's getting to the damn campus. There's really only one funkin' road that will take you from the highway, all the way through town and to the campus. Expect that to be backed up. The only saving grace is that there's probably only gonna be about 35-40K in attendance. Purdue fans and students won't bother to show up unless they're still in it in the 3rd quarter.
