Lenee' Buchman Named Spirit Squad Head Coach

Cortland, Ohio, native brings with her more than 17 years of collegiate coaching experience


COLUMBUS, Ohio - Lenee Buchman, who has spent the last 12 years as cheerleading coach at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio, has been named Ohio State's new spirit squad head coach, Associate Athletics Director for External Relations Diana Sabau announced Friday.


Buchman brings with her more than 17 years of collegiate coaching experience. She started her career as the head coach at her alma mater, the University of Akron, from 1992-97 before moving on to Kent State where she also earned her master of education degree in 2007.


"Lenee's vision and leadership fit symmetrically with the mission and core values of our athletics department," Sabau said. "She will be an asset to our cheerleaders and Brutus, alumni and community. Lenee will uphold our tradition of excellence and achievements."


For the past four years, Buchman also has been serving as the Cheerleading Coordinator for the State of Ohio for the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators. At OASSA, Buchman shoulders a number of responsibilities, including the hiring of staff, certifying coaches, preparation for Cheer Ohio summer camps, clinics, and the regional and state championships for cheerleading and dance teams in Ohio.


"I am excited about my new position as head coach and I look forward to being a part of The Ohio State University family," Buchman said.


During her years coaching at Akron, Buchman took her teams to nationals three times and placed in the Top 20 each year. While at Kent State, Buchman's teams placed in the Top 20 each year they have attended.

She also judges at the regional, state and national level, is AACCA certified and works closely with NFHS as the state spirit director for Ohio.


As an undergrad, Buchman cheered at Kent State from 1989-92 where she placed third at partner stunt nationals and was a Cheer Ohio staff member. Buchman then worked as the director of Cheer Ohio Summer Camps for 10 years during the summer months.


Buchman received her bachelor of arts degree in elementary education from the University of Akron in 1995 and earned her masters of education from Kent State in 2007. She worked as an elementary school teacher at Carylwood Intermediate School in Bedford, Ohio, from 1995-2005 and also was a gymnastics instructor at Trumbull Gymnastics in Champion, Ohio, from 1979-1988.


Buchman and her husband, Kevin, have two children, Natalie and Nathan.
 
Lenee is awesome. I worked for her and her husband Kevin for a coulpe years. She will be a great addition to the OSU Cheerleading family and will finally be able to do the things she wants with the talent we get here!!

Go Bucks. Im sure the Flashes will miss her.
