These conversations are about what may happen. Last year we didn't look like worldbeaters until we needed to beat the world. Either that's going to happen this year or it's not, we'll know as it happens. MSU is not as strong as they were last year, Michigan's return to glory has been overplayed, Iowa just isn't scary. We could lose to any of them, but I have no reason to believe we will. If X does Y -- we can play that game all day.

Either it comes together when it needs to, or it doesn't. I'm betting it does, but who knows how far that gets us. We all know a lot of shit has to fall into place, beyond solid play, to win a title. Who knows (not I) what sort of crazy shit has to happen to win two in a row.

We have the coach and the team to make that happen, and I'm excited to see if our play will start to elevate as the stakes rise.

Yeah we got excited when he dropped 49 on Rutgers but Cardale led the offense to the same number of points against a statistically better Maryland defense two weeks before and he had similar stats to JT. Now I DO think the offense looks better but it isn't like it's flipped a switch to 2014 form yet.

To be fair, this is JT's second start of the year. Think about how most QBs look in their second start of the year - based on that comparison, I would say JT much surpassed expectations. Hopefully he starts reaching peak efficiency when we most need him (ie, next week and beyond)

and the post i quoted is not "calling out mediocrity." it's whining that they aren't fucking NFL players functioning as a professional unit at 18 and 22 years old, when they're still blowing out a [Mark May]ty team on the road after a ton of mistakes. they aren't having the best day but they are by no means fkn mediocre: look at the records and look at the statistics. it's unrealistic expectations of fans that have no concept of a proper sample size, and it makes reading the updates in the gameday threads miserable with everyone and their "team is so bad", "can't watch, turning it off", "they're so average" nonsense.

Is 10 games not an appropriate sample size? It's no longer solely a statistical aberration when the mistakes are repeated week after week (or year after year). We've given up so many long plays this season (and in past seasons) due to terrible tackling or busted coverage. It's just a little frustrating when you turn on CBS and watch Alabama play a fully complete game, against a much superior opponent.

Honestly, we all saw what happened when Notre Dame (who squeaked out wins against inferior opponents) played Alabama, and what happened to FSU (same situation) when they played Oregon. We have similar talent to Alabama, I just wish we would play as cleanly and with discipline as they do.

Anyways, let's agree to disagree. I'll admit I'm a pretty harsh critic, but it's only cause I love 'em.

I hear you. I have high expectations only because I love osu and I know we have the players/system to play outstanding football.

Right now though our offense just needs to stay ahead of the chains, don't turn the ball over, and make timely plays down field. The defense is and will be fine but oddly enough it's the offense that is of concern. We have to go down the field somehow and right now the play calling plus the protection are not allowing for that to set up. We just made 2-3 unbelievably bad timed plays this game to make it appear we struggled on offense. Didn't punch it in from the 1 (even though we did), and had two turnovers kill drives (one in their territory). We score on 2-3 of those drives and this is a 42-3 game.

We need more chunk plays through the air. We won't beat bama' driving the ball 80 yards with the zone read. More plays=more opportunities to turn the ball over. The plays of 6 yards a run are nice but it's extremely hard to do that for a whole drive.

Zeke went for 180
Barrett went for 75
The defense gives up 3

And we "only" win 28-3. Should've been worse but considering the mistakes and the zero pass protection I'll take it

Miss State currently has over 220 yards of offense midway through 2nd quarter on Bama using Meyers offense with a hell of a lot less talent

There isn't anybody in CFB the Buckeyes can't beat even if they don't play perfectly.

If it seems like Urban Meyer has run over the Big Ten unlike anything we've ever seen since he joined the conference in 2012, that's not scarlet-colored glasses for the Ohio State fan.

Urban Meyer coached Ohio State to its 30th-straight Big Ten win, breaking a record it tied last week with Florida State's 29-straight ACC wins from 1992 to 1995. No other program in the currentconference landscape has won as many league games in a row as the Buckeyes have from 2012 to the present. The qualifier of "current" conferences is important since it omits Oklahoma's 44-game winning streak in the defunct Big Seven.

I have only seen us play like we're 'supposed to' against maryland, rutgers and penn state. If we play like we're supposed to we'll be seeing two of those goofy looking trophys in the case next year. If we play like we did in 7/10 of the games this year, we'll get beat up pretty bad by any of the other 3 playoff teams.

Clemson and Bama have great defenses. OSU is every bit as good. Our offense occasionally plays as good or better than they do. Punchers chance in either game but we have a pretty good coach. We have good special teams outside of our FG kicker and I could easily see that costing us a big game. Still, I'll take our chances.
