Game Thread tOSU @ Maryland, Oct 4th @ 12pm ET, ABC

2 stories about UMd football:

1. I took a Saturday class on fall semester. After class I wandered over to Byrd stadium where UMd was upsetting North Carolina. Walked in and sat on the 40 yardline for the 2nd half.
2. Another Saturday class, Ohio University was visiting. The Bobcats had a good following, I walked through the OU tailgate area high-five'ing with the Bobcat faithful. OU won 21-0
There were more Maryland students playing ultimate frisbee on campus today then there were in the stands. They were playing before and after the game.

Some fans Friday night, and some in our section, made it clear they don't travel, aren't loyal & don't care that much about football when the squad isn't top notch.

Cardale's hurdle was worth the price of admission. The look on the fans who stayed faces was awesome. High fives all around our seats from the Buckeye faithful.

Here's what I don't like: going for it on 4th down up 52-24 inside their five yard line.

If this was M*ch*g*n.. I'm all for it. Go for three.

I thought it was bush league. I don't want to fight with others over it.. It's like, my opinion, man. I get that we need to destroy teams to have a chance to get into the playoffs. I understand our goal line offense needs reps (Jesus Christ how bad is the zone read from the shotgun inside the 5?).

We have a freshman kicker who needs confidence and reps too.. I didn't like 'running it up' in garbage time.

Herman seemed to brain fart sometimes inside the 10, other calls today down there I did like so it's not all bad. I think we need to move someone to FB and install a goal line set. I don't care if its a lineman, LBer, TE or a youngin who has earned it in practice.. Give EZE a lead blocker and allow him to hit the hole quicker. Seems to me some of the shotgun/pistol runs take too long to develop in the shadow of the end zone.

In regards to going for it up big...

I think thats the protocol. Urb gave MD the chance to stop it and ran a pretty vanilla play. Going for the FG basically guarantees points, and is considered more disrespectful.
