11W - 11W Recruiting Staff Roundtable: Visitors Coming to Town

12/5

A 12-0 season is now in the books and with a bowl ban standing in the way of the Buckeyes extending their season past November, the Ohio State coaches have gone into full beast mode on the recruiting trail.

While the lack of a bowl game gives the coaches no systematic advantage in terms of visits or phone calls, it does allow full attention to be devoted to the task of recruiting an excellent group of players to fill out the class of 2013 and start the class of 2014, while their rivals are splitting time on the road and prepping for their next opponent.

The staff was out in full force following the Michigan game, hitting high schools around the country in hopes of landing the next great Buckeye. The journey to Signing Day in February continues this weekend, as OSU is set to host a number of highly touted prospects, as well as current commits to help woo those players to play their college ball in Columbus.

Ozone - Buckeyes Set to Host Big Names for Another Big Recruiting Weekend

12/5

This week has seen some major coaching dominoes fall into place, with the most surprising being Bret Bielema?s decision to leave Wisconsin for Arkansas.

Many thought Charlie Strong was the coach to beat, but with Bret on his way to Fayetteville, does Paul Chryst get the call from Barry Alvarez? If so, des this impact players like Dorian Johnson, who committed to play for Chryst at Pitt?

Does this impact Ohio State? Luke Fickell was a finalist for the Pitt job last year. Does Strong stay at Louisville, all but guarantying that Ohio State loses out on wide receiver James Quick? Will Darrell Hazell going to Purdue influence any current OSU assistants to take the Kent State job? Will Butch Jones leave UC? Would Kerry Coombs be a candidate if he does?

Only time will tell.

As for the coaching carousel, this scenario is the one that could benefit us the most imo:

1) Paul Chryst leaves Pitt to go back to Wisky. As much as I hate Bucky, I want the Big 10 to be strong and Chryst is a respectable guy and a great coach. Further, Pitt is in great position with recruits of interest. I'm not sure D. Johnson reconsiders unless the most of the staff is gone...he seems set on Pitt and being close to home, not Chryst. Plus Wisky isn't a threat to us for anyone we want right now and we aren't interested in any of their commits. As for Foster, I am not sure how much the interest has been renewed on our side. He says he is down to Pitt and Bama, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him take a 2nd look at OSU if Pitt is out of the picture...never got the feeling he wanted to go far from home.

2) Strong heads to Tennessee: While this will likely creat disparate results, hear me out. Whether we get Quick or not is solely dependent on whether Strong leaves Louisville or not. If he does, we likely get Quick. If not, Quick goes to Louisville and no questions asked. Now move to Bell. I think Bell ends up at UT regardless...he is a player that loves UT, not who is running the program. OSU has a decent shot here but I'm not sure a Strong hire for UT puts us in a signicantly better or worse spot for his signature. Plus Redfield seems intent to visit, so hopefully he is a legitimate alternative. The real downside to Strong at UT is how it could affect us for guys like Malone and Hurd next year in Tennessee, whom we appear to be in good shape with.

- Those are the only two scenarios I see affecting our recruiting in any way. I think Mitchell, Worley, Gibson, and Conley are in. Also, I really think Trey Johnson ends up here too, regardless of the Malzahn hire or who stays. As for Dawson, he will either stay up north, which I think is the most likely, or head to OSU imo. As for Munger, I am not positive the staff wants him here...I see Price getting moved to guard if we miss on Dawson and calling it a day at OL unless we can flip an OT somewhere.

I believe it was Mike Farrell (Rivals) that I was reading the other day that Oregon stopped recruiting Max because he was playing the recruiting game and just using them. He has mentioned numerous times that Max is all Irish.

Do you think it's possible/likely that Max is using tOSU in the same manner?
