tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Ohio State is up to four in-state offers in '16 already with George Hill, Jake Hausmann, Liam Eichenberg, and Tommy Kraemer. I wonder if the class is much stronger than '15 or if the staff is just hitting their stride with in-state evaluations.

Justin Hilliard, Jerome Baker, Larry Scott, Shaun Crawford, Eric Glover-Williams, Dre'Mont Jones and Elijah Taylor make 7 offers by my count. I think that number will likely go up by a few by the end of the cycle.

It'll go up, but not by much. The staff is still searching far and wide for the best talent. If kids from Ohio haven't been offered yet, they're going to have earn one in camp or over the season. But this staff is going after the best in general regardless of where they live. It just so happens that Ohio happens to have some elite talent so far for 2016.

Yes, there is a loooonnnngggg way to go until NLOID 2016 and no, the sky isn't falling. But I did not like the recent updates on Eichenberg (TSUN lean) and Kraemer (comments about tOSU academics, which are valid if you're focusing on the huge university as a whole and not it's individual colleges/majors). Anyway, the staff has its work cut out for it. I was getting excited about the possibility of these two talented in-state linemen donning the scarlet and gray...

My wayyy too early 2016 list (think of it as a wish list):

QB: Malik Henry
QB: Dwayne Haskins (not sure we get 2 elite guys at QB but just a best guess...any of Guarantano, Pass, McIlwain etc. would be great)
RB: George Hill
RB: Robert Washington
Pivot: DeMario McCall
WR: Nate Craig
WR: Justin Layne
TE: Jake Hausmann
TE: Luke Farrell
OL:
Tyler Gerald
OL: Liam Eichenberg (we'll make up the ground here after we apply the heat and another 7-5 scUM season that gets Brady the boot)
OL: Tommy Kraemer (we'll make sure he is all square on the academics and get him in this class)
OL: Ben Bredeson (I think we have a great shot and he is THE top interior OL in the country)
DL: Prince Sammons
DE: Nick Bosa
DE: Josh King
DT: Rashan Gary
LB: Brendan Ferns
LB: Zach Sandwisch (no idea for the second guy but this is an Ohio guy to watch)
DB: Levonta Taylor
DB: Byron Murphy
DB: Cedrick Wright
DB: Tyrece Speaight
ATH/DE: Jonathan Cooper (forgot him up above, he will be a Buckeye)

Great list. Gotta look up some of those names soon...

Pretty good list. I'll go through my opinions one by one.
QB: I think Haskins will commit before Henry. We have a good shot at Henry if we wait it out, but not sure the coaches will do that after getting burned by Watson and Gibson the past two classes. Especially when a guy like Haskins wants to be a Buckeye and will probably commit sooner rather than later.
RB/Pivot: agree with all three. Washington is the pure RB and Hill and McCall are the pivots. McCall possibly committing at FNL?
WR: I think we take more than two. Definitely Layne and Craig then one or two more from Mack, Chambesr, Smothers, Bracey, Hawkins.
TE: nailed it. Both in-state. Farrell should commit relatively soon. Hausmann might take a bit longer as he seems decently interested in Notre Dame but I think he's a Buckeye in the end.
OL: Gerald's in. Agree on Eichenberg and Kraemer though both might take more work than initially thought. Michael Onwenu is a blue chip OG from Cass Tech that recently named us favorite. Then one more elite OOS OT. Could be Bredeson, though he might stay home in Wisconsin. There's also Michael Menet from PA and Jauan Williams from DC. Williams has legit interest. Gavin Cupp from OH could also be an under the radar recruit.
DE: Bosa is in. Sammons looks good too. I also think we take Kyrie Campbell from NC and Cooper. Don't know much about King, he seems like a ND lean at this point though. Rahshaun Smith has early interest from MD. Could make a move for Shane Simmons and Malik Burrow as well.
DT: Have no idea. Gary will be a tough get for whoever gets him. Doesn't seem like the type of kid to commit early. Looks like Bama and possibly PSU have the inside track at this point. Besides Gary I really don't know any other DTs we're recruiting.
LB: I think Tucky earns a scholly and commits. Look good for Ferns too. We take those two, then take an elite OOS LB if we can, and if we can't we just take two. Quarterman from FL has early interest but he'll be a very tough pull from the south. Joyner as well, but LSU seems to be way out in front, even though we're top 4.
DB: Again no idea. I thought Speaight, but supposedly he's a Michigan fan and named them his leader. Need Booker and Parris Campbell to work him. Taylor, Murphy and Wright have shown early interest. I think we have a good shot at Patrice Rene from Canada.

Overall good list. I'd be thrilled if we landed ten to twelve of the top 15 in Ohio and then spread the rest out with elite OOS talent (Haskins, Craig, Bosa..)
