tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Watched his tape, kid has elite wheels and just seems a bit underrated, his film seems to be better than everyone we were after late except maybe the FL kid
I was kind of underwhelmed with his film(not a knock on Gardner), as he seems more like a project that'll need a few years of college seasoning. I like his height, but he'll need to obviously put on weight, get in the weight room and work on his speed/agility. But he does have the tools to get jump balls get open and have great balance. I'm sure he was so underrated because of the size of his school and competition he played against. He played in one of the smaller divisions in TX in a school with only a few hundred kids, on an above average team, so it's easy to go under the radar. would love to see what Mariotti could do with him over time

I can see his school being in a smaller division, but out of him Palmer, Oliver and Robinson, I think he looks better than all but Robinson...The position seems very natural for him and his speed jumps off the screen right away...Not only is he fast but he seems to get to top speed in a hurry

Glad Urb is getting paid the big bucks to make these decisions. I'm guessing that 'taking a chance' on a 3* project, versus the projects taken several years ago is a better gamble. Yeah, I know that some of those projects have been dynamite players for the Buckeyes, and tOSU has been known for those kids. But it reasons out that there are 43 (44?) frosh and RS frosh. If you clear out some of the juniors/RS juniors to take more frosh this year, doesn't one exacerbate the potential problem of 85? Go Bucks. Just the thought of losing my football schollie would make me want to pump alot harder, so maybe some of those players on the edge might respond more positively? Not entirely certain, and opinions are like noses, everyone has one. Go Bucks! It's been very exciting since Urb has taken charge, hasn't it?

Interesting Jalen Hurd just visited this weekend.....some thought he was going to switch positions from RB to TE based on his size (he's 6'3" and runs pretty upright).

My assumption is Meyer would want him at RB....

Also, for those that haven't seen it yet, James Robinson was cited for marijuana on his OV to OSU.....that's not gonna fly.

You're right. Just doesn't seem beneficial to bring in players with a slim possibility of ever playing. I'm curious to see how many more end up transferring

It is beneficial with roster management. You get the upside of the project panning out and none of the downside (if they needs to make the roster fit for next years stud, they make it fit).

One thing I am interested to see is how they manage the overall roster moving forward in terms of those "program guys" who stay 4-5 years and give you a little bit of that grit to go with all the guys who are just here for their 3 years and done. Obviously you need to have that kind of talent to compete for NC's but you also need a few of those guys who would crawl through 100 yards of broken glass to be a Buckeye (at least imo).

There are needs for players beyond contribution on the field on game day. Scout teams for example. Otherwise why bring on board 20 walk-on's every season?

Not to suggest we recruit glorified walk-on's. But until they start paying interest, putting ships in the bank bay not be the best option.

RB sounds more likely with Baugh, Hawkins, Haussmann, Farrell, and Alexander. Last weight I seen him was 240# so I would expect him to have to cut down to about 225-230

Sounds like he wants an opportunity in the "H" position which makes sense, seeing as he'd like to transition to more of a receiver role.

He's not a typical "H" in terms of quick twitch muscle movement but he'd create interesting run dynamics with two "bigger" backs when he gets motioned into backfield. Could be fun to watch....
