2018 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

With the commitments of Wray and Proctor today, that is two more states from which OSU has invaded. I can't recall any players from Tennessee or Oklahoma previously (Vonn Bell played in GA, and the only kid we've landed from OK was Kevin Johnson, a JUCO originally from GA).

By my reckoning, these are the states from which OSU has yet to sign a player:

Alabama
Alaska
Connecticut
Delaware
Hawaii (Scott Terna was originally a walkon)
Idaho
Maine
Montana
Nebraska
New Mexico
*Oklahoma
Oregon
New Hampshire
North Dakota
Rhode Island
*Tennessee
Vermont
Wyoming

*Although committed, Proctor and Wray have yet to sign

Chuck Hunter from St. Marks HS in Wilmington, DE played for Woody and Earl in the 70's. Started at TE for a few years and had the only offensive TD against Xichigan in the 1979 game.

I'm guessing that we would want three DE's in this class? Chase Young was the only one in the last class and since we lose Lewis, Holmes, and likely Hubbard, I figured three is the number.

My guess would be:

Brenton Cox (from what we are hearing)
Micah Parsons (I've always felt he'd be a Buckeye)
Tyreke Smith

I think Hawkins will actually be a DE and would swap him on your list for Cox but who knows...

I forget where I read it, but Hawkins recently said the staff likes him as a SSDE type. He said they told him he could fill the same role as Tyquan. Was a surprise to me. I thought he would be a 3-tech too.
Really good read by Birm. This quote prompted me to move him into the DE category on the '18 Offers Page:
“Johnson likes me as an end right now more than a 3-tech. He thinks I’d be very physical and make it difficult for teams to get the edge, but he thinks I can be a high quality pass rusher at either spot though,” Hawkins said.
