2018 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Ok, I will give this a shot:

QB Emory Jones (Emory is solid and we are set with him in '18)
RB Brian Snead (appears as solid as can be)
RB Master Teague (see above, we are set at RB for '18)
RB/WR Jaelen Gill (the future in the Pivot, 5 star is warranted)

WR Kamryn Babb (matter of when, not if...we land our top WR target before the end of the summer)
WR L'Christian Smith (would be shocked if he heads anywhere but OSU, WR all the way imo)
TE Jeremy Ruckert (nice to have him in red, top TE in the country = secured)
OT Max Wray (solid)

OL Jackson Carman (will give us some drama but he will be a Buckeye)
OL Matthew Jones (I am thinking he starts out at OL mostly due to need)
OL Juice Scruggs (think he ends up a Buckeye, not positive though)
OL ??? (I think we need 4 but no idea who...I have Walker firmly to PSU right now...thinking we might have to send out a few new offers...maybe we pursue Traore?)
DE Micah Parsons (I think we are way out front and land him barring a miracle)
DE Brenton Cox (think he is as firm as you can get and a legit 5 star talent)
DE Jayson Oweh (I think we pulled ahead here by a bit and really want him in the class...seriously think he could end up being the best DE in the '18 class before it is said and done, and we can afford to take at least one "project" type with Cox and hopefully Parsons on board)
DT/DE Tyreke Smith (I believe we are ahead here and I like the versatility...think he ends up a Buckeye)
DT Taron Vincent (solid)
DT Tommy Togiai (I have him penciled in for now but definitely in pencil...loved his visit and looks like he is leaning our way strong after last weekend...would be a great compliment to Vincent)
LB Teradja Mitchell (solid commit it seems)
LB Dallas Gant (solid)

LB K'Vaughan Pope (will have his name in red come August 4th, seems the staff gave him the green light...would love having him in this class...would have to think this closes the class but will have to see if the staff still pursues Tuliaupupu/Gaotete)
DB Sevyn Banks (not sure he sticks for sure but seems fairly solid for now)
DB Anthony Cook (think he is still leaning our way but things have been quiet...another dogfight it seems)
DB Tyson Campbell (not sure we land him without Silvera or Chatfield, but we'll see...not sure who else would slot in here...staff has him at the top of the board though, so I like our chances)
DB Jaiden Woodbey (seems way more solid recently but still think we will be in for a fight to keep him...the fight is worth it though and I think we keep him)
DB Josh Proctor (seems very solid but OU will push hard...think he sticks with the good guys though)

chatfield already off list????

THREE-STARS CAN BE ALL-STARS FOR URBAN MEYER AT OHIO STATE, BUT THEY ARE THE EXCEPTIONS

83863_h.jpg

Urban Meyer has signed 42 three-stars in his first five recruiting cycles. Our review of these 42 signees suggest that a case like Malik Hooker is exceptional among this sample of all Ohio State football signees. Most don't reach those heights, and certainly among signees in more recent classes. The 2012 and 2013 classes are conspicuous for how many recruits became important contributors to Ohio State football in the past three seasons.

I counted 11 of the top 50 on the 247 composite as likely being Buckeyes.

Absurd.
That is honestly the best word to describe it, lol!
I wonder if there's been a team to have a recruiting class twice in a row(assuming we finish with the players we're favored for) finish with a rating as high. 2017 and 2018 could very well set a foundation for a historic run

A plausible Ohio State Class of 2018 (revised 4 August 2017). Added LB K'Vaughan Pope (predicted) and DB Marcus Hooker (surprised); deleted Fredrick Scruggs (Penn State). Glad to be right on Pope and wrong on Scruggs. Not sure what to think of Hooker, who appears right now to be a reach. However, this staff would not take him simply because his brother was a star at tOSU, so they must think that he has potential well beyond his "star" rating.

As possible additions, I'm now including DB Tyson Campbell and DT Tommy Togiai.

Again, please keep doing this cart because it is awesome. Hooker earned his spot though, staff told him what was expected and he met the expectation...then got a commitable offer and accepted. His brother was ranked about the same and worked out ok...not a guarantee of success but after the Boren, Bosa, etc. bloodlines have worked out, I am more than ok to see how he works out.

As for the rest, I agree on the rest except Brown. I could be wrong, but I just don't think he is a take yet. Could be wrong, but I think we wait that one out. But I love seeing Blue Smith and Togiai added...I have them as in right now. Same on Oweh, he wants to be a Buckeye.

I agree on Hooker, his recruitment reminds me of Darron Lee's, where the staff told him what they wanted from him, he put in the work and earned his offer in a camp setting. The unfortunate comparisons to his brother will never cease among fans(and media alike) because of what he did in his one starting year(may be one of the greatest single year DB performances in OSU if not CFB history), but he deserves to be in this class. It will be interesting to see where he eventually finds his spot, I believe S, but he could be a Nickel CB, Coombs will find out sooner rather than later.

But I also don't see Brown in this class, and I'm starting to lean away from even seeing Campbell in this class as well(I think he stays in the south). But I could see the coaches circling back around to get a local OT like Kinnard. And the staff going after Jackson instead of securing Togai, who will stay out west, IMO.

Didn't an OL or TE named Gardner (2013 class I think) also earn a scholarship by fulfilling the requirements? He didn't have a brother who was an all american on the team though. But temper your expectations. I am happy Hooker got a schollie though.
