tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Meh.

There’s just so much momentum and selling points of the school, alumni base, real life Wednesday’s, NFL pipeline, a staff of excellent recruiters including Mark P, etc that I just don’t see a big impact.

Just win baby.

Time heals all wounds, and winning football games will help.

They might not close as strongly in the ‘19 class as they might otherwise have done, but by the time the ‘20 class rolls around I doubt it will be an issue at all.

James Franklin will have field day negative recruiting on this.

I mentioned in the Meyer thread and it got buried- I actually think he can turn this into a positive. Facing and responding to adversity, a (re)commitment to core values, and so on.

We will see. I still think ‘20 will go down as one of the best classes ever and this ordeal will be a complete afterthought in six months.

The only negative recruiting I could see would be if he wasn't going to be the coach anymore. Recruits now know he'll be here when they will be arriving. All the other shit isn't probably any different than what shitbags like Franklin would already be peddling anyways.
Any kid/family that pays more attention to the headlines than in person discussions with Meyer probably wasn’t going to Ohio State in the first place.

THIs,and so much this! The public now is so short sighted and ADD riddled due to social media. Winning big will make this all forgotten.

Guys, language. This thread is still in the recruiting forum even if it is a general discussion. I have a potty mouth myself, but it has to stay at the door in here.

With that public announcement complete, I tend to think it won't effect our current commits unless it is someone that would have flipped for some other reason (as some inevitably always do). I am with @Buckeye86 in thinking it might lead to us not having as strong as a finish in '19, but not having a lasting effect beyond that. But for '19, if we go out and set the world on fire this season, maybe this whole ordeal is put so far in the rear-view mirror that it doesn't effect this class. But I do think it is going to be used effectively against us for some guys, and work. So I think it will probably have some negative consequences for this class, but not drastically and really beyond this class, it likely becomes a non-issue provided Urban toes the line.

I never thought that we’d have a strong finish anyway. We were going to close with who we were favored to, and I for one am fine with that. As long as we get Harrison, everything else is icing. With urban back, I am strongly behind whomever the coaches close with and it will still finish in the top 10

True. I already had the '19 class predicted as a good class around the top 10, but not quite the caliber that we saw the last couple years. But I think for some guys like Darnell Wright where we are neck and neck with some other big names, you don't like to have anything like this that could be the determining factor when things are so close for him. He's just an example, no inside info, but Wright is immediately behind Harrison on my list.

As much as I'd love to get Wright, I'd be just as fine going after a "project" like Jonathon Allen(or Rouse). I could see Stud and Mariotti molding Allen, and the kid seems to WANT to be a Buckeye. The scandal may have turned Wright away from us, IMO. Allen reminds me a little of Munford(underrated Ohio kid with great athleticism for his size), and that's a good thing
